HEADCANON #3

Izumi, Akemi, Kenoa, and Ronin have pretty typical first words ("Dada" & "Mama")

Kya II's first word is "Oogies," thanks to her Dad's constant teasing of her Aunt Katara and Uncle Zuko (Sokka is embarrassed, especially since she clearly thinks it's his name; Katara finds the whole thing hilarious)

Bumi II's first words are "Yip Yip" (Aang couldn't be prouder; the GAang thinks it's cute)

Ryu's first word is "Umi," thanks to his inability to say "Izumi" at that age (This becomes Izumi's nickname amongst her siblings & cousins; Zuko ad Iroh call her "Lotus Blossom"; Iroh calls her "My Favorite Fire Lord" when she's a teen; Sokka calls her "Zum Zum"; Toph calls her "Sparky Jr." from day 1)

Jingyuan's first word is "Shit." No one wonders which parent he got that one from. (He says it at an international summit with his Dad, and his Uncles Zuko and Sokka in attendance; Aang is mortified and apologizes profusely to all present; Sokka laughs so hard he cries and falls out of his chair; Zuko spits out his tea all over the Earth King, he laughs so hard; Toph cackles and snorts when they tell her afterwards, completely unashamed just amused and proud)

Yua's first word is "Moo." (Her parents are confused at first, until they realize she yells it particularly animatedly at her PaPa, who calls her "My Little Moon and Stars")

Tenzin's first word is "Momo." (Toph says that's close enough to "Mama," so that means 2 out of 3 kids chose her as their first word, so she wins -- even though Aang is unaware of them ever being in a competition over that)

I talk about Steambabies all the time, so here are my headcanons for the Bladebabies and Dunebabies.

Sukka:

Yue II - Oldest of the Gaang kids. Waterbender. She was originally a nonbender but gained bending and white hair when Moon Spirit Yue brought her back to life when she was a few days old. Eventually became Chieftess of SWT.

Lin and Suyin - Adopted at 5 and 2 years old. They're not blood related; Lin found Suyin after their homes were destroyed in the Fire Nation civil war and looked after her before Sokka found them. The plan was to drop them off at Jet’s Orphanage, but they grew attached so he brought them home. Both are earthbenders and trained by Toph. Lin is a mama's girl and Suyin a daddy's girl. Lin became chief of police after Suki retired while Suyin traveled the world working odd jobs.

Senna - Surprised baby Sukka had in their 40s. Youngest of the Gaang kids. Nonbender and Kysohi Warrior. Mother of the next avatar.

Taang:

Gyasto II - Earthbender. Oldest twin. Carefree but mellows out with age. Originally wanted to inherit Toph's Pro-Bending ring but joins the army instead after hearing the war stories.

Bumi II - Airbender. Ring leader despite being the younger twin. Prankster. Teaches other air nomads when he gets older. (In this AU, other airbenders survived the genocide and came out of hiding after the Great War ended.)

what abt suki x sokka kids too??

So I have three kid concepts for you, but id personally only give them two or even just one.

First of all, Sokka and Suki would make perfect parents. They're emotionally intelligent and kind and just so supportive and proud of their kids no matter what. Only problem is that they are kind of workaholics.

So here's my ideas:

Firstly, Yuka. A strong warrior and nonbender. She is following her parents legacies like it's a damn rulebook. She's cunning and quick, logical and skeptical. She reads exclusively non-fiction, but doesn't enjoy it. She believes that you can't enjoy something while working hard, but enjoys working hard itself. She can be overly prideful. She is a strong community leader on Kyoshi Island.

Then, Amaruq. He was born in the Southern Water Tribe, and he was born deaf. Deafness is quite common in the water tribes, I think. He is not a fighter, instead, he's a blacksmith and a cartographer. He hunts well, and could put those skills into combat if he so chooses. He is very handy with a bow and arrow.

Here's my last concept, for which I have no name or sketch, but I think yue would thank sokka by giving him a VERY strong waterbender. And I think they would be very involved in the Civil War between the North and South. I think their eyes would be VIVID blue.

Yuka would teach asami chi blocking 100%. She would also allow us to see the Kyoshi warriors in tlok.

Amaruq would be someone that helps out all of them along their power crawl and then would probably have a huge badass fight scene.

The waterbender would have sworn to protect koraa from birth methinks.

—Aang finds them ridiculous and Toph thinks it's the most funny thing she ever heard.

—Katara reads one of them during breakfast:

“Looks like you're cheating on me this time.” She sips her tea.

Zuko shrugged, “It's only fair. You were getting real chummy with Aang in that hug last month.”

How do you think Sukka, Zutara, and Taang would go about giving their kids ‘the talk?’ Do they preplan what to say or just wing it?

And as a bonus, how would each ship handle their older (early teenage?) kids, who already know what’s going on, walking in on them? (Lol I wrote a Sukka fic a few months ago where that happens so I thought it’d be fun to get someone else’s take on how that would go down.)

Okay Boomer (I saw an opportunity and I took it, and it was silly and I regret it I'm sorry lmao it won't happen again), thank you for the ask! Oh boy, the age-old armadillo birds and the beetle bees discussion. Good lord I need to stop I'm sorry it's Friday LOL. Let's talk!

Sukka: Sokka would probably go about the topic humorously to lighten up the awkwardness. Maybe put on his Wang Fire beard? He'd probably try and use metaphors, and then begin to ramble because he really doesn't want to be talking about his with his kids, especially his baby girl, and by the time he starts rambling on about the 100 year war, Suki puts a loving hand on his shoulder and says, "I'll take it from here, darling." LOL. But, I do think they would try and be sincere with their answers. Their son would probably go to Sokka for questions, and their daughter Suki. And if they were caught in the act? Well... Let's just say I feel like we'd see another TSR surprised looks from out esteemed couple lmao! They'd hope and pray no one saw anything but... it happens. Sometimes you just get caught with your pants down, ya know? I'd guess they'd try and play it cool, fail a little bit (a lot a bit), and they'd be walking on eggshells around the house for a while haha!

Zutara: Idk why, but I just picture mortified looks from everyone involved. The parents don't wanna be there, the kids don't wanna be there... I just see this as being the time where the whole family becomes awkward turtleducks and there's just no way around it. Zuko and Katara probably try to prepare for the conversation as much as possible, maybe even visual aids?? (the horror on the kids faces). But, like Sukka, there probably is a moment where all awkwardness aside, there's a breakthrough and they have a sincere conversation. And if anything, the girls would probably just go straight to Katara for a one-on-one conversation, and that makes things way easier. Sure, she can be awkward too, but it's their Mama, they trust her and respect her and they know they can go to her with these types of questions. With Iroh II? He just kind of goes about his life and Zuko avoids the conversation as long as possible... The kid is practically an adult by the time Zuko gets the courage to talk, and really, Iroh already knows things at this point LOL. And for the walking in... oh spirits above everyone wishes they could unsee what (or who lmao) went down. If either of the girls saw that, they would most certainly give their parents the silent treatment. No one could look each other in the eye either!

Taang: Aang tries to be all "it's a part of nature! It's beautiful" and Toph is like "enough metaphors, this is what you do and where you put it" LOL. They both seem rather impromptu with their ways, Aang probably would fumble his words more than Toph. And for the kids, I think they would mostly turn to Aang for questions and stuff. Toph would definitely give them blunt answers and won't shy away from the conversation, but it's easier to talk to Baba about this stuff... Toph probably is the first person to tell the kids where babies come from, though. Honestly, she probably told Lin when she was pregnant with Kenji and the girl was just... shooketh. Aang balked when he heard what Mama told Linny and gave Toph a stern lecture about oversharing... But out of the three, I think they're probably the chillest couple and not as embarrassed about talking about it than the others. It's probably not the smoothest conversation, but Toph always gives straight answers and Aang is really relatable, so in this situation, it's kind of useful. And as far as walking in on them... I think Toph would sometimes be able to tell when they're about to be walked in on LOL. But if she can't, I think there would be a lot of shouting between Toph and her kid telling him/her to get out lol. Aang would definitely be mortified and run after the child to console him/her and Toph would complain about her kid being a cockblock. The kids would whine and call them gross and the house would be a bit of a circus (well, more of one at least). Aang will probably be guilty and embarrassed, and Toph will say she's not, but Aang can see just a hint of blush creeping over her face...

Oof I don’t have solid headcanons but I’ll make some up for u. Actually I remembered I made some up here, so I’ll build off that and maybe tweak a few details bc as I said my hcs are not consistent LMAO

Sokka and Suki got married about 4 years after the war. It took some time for them to get their careers sorted out and help restore their respective towns before they could really live together and settle down. But they were still together through that time, and just the other’s biggest supporter. Soon enough within a year Suki was pregnant with their first, a boy they named Malek. He’s not a bender but he sure as hell is a troublemaker. As he gets older he is model-worthy handsome and handy with a sword, and incredibly smart. Basically his dad’s mini me. They have another child about two years after Malek. A girl they name Kina (sometimes I make her name Kya bc I think Sokka would also want to honor his mother), who turns out to be a water bender. She likes to visit her Auntie Katara in the springtime to train. She’s pretty hopeless at healing, but she gets pretty good at plant bending. Malek and Kina get along really well, they’re like two peas in a pod. The small family live on Kyoshi Island but visit the SWT frequently. The kids love their Grandpa Hakoda, he’s so fun and always teaching them good skills to have and giving them candy. They love to show off their fighting skills to him.

Katara doesn’t stay so close to home. Once her and Zuko finally figure out that oh actually we’re in love and we’re the last ones to realize that, she moves to the Fire Nation shortly after Sokka’s wedding. She actually quite likes the warmth and the flowers, and she’s happy to work as a healer and help Zuko set up a true health care system for the FN. Eventually she becomes the ambassador for her tribe, so she can help more people as she loves to do. Her relationship with the Fire Lord isn’t exactly a secret, but they are discrete so it doesn’t interfere with their professionalism. Of course, she becomes very invaluable to the FN, and everyone is actually relieved when Zuko proposes to her just after a year of her being there. (It was quick, but they knew what they wanted.) Their wedding was quite the occasion, as expected- it seemed like the whole world was there in attendance.

Katara got pregnant about a year and a half later, and just so happened to be pregnant at the same time as Suki! They both had girls. Kina came a few months before Izumi, but besides their darker skin, the cousins look nothing alike! Kina looks more like her mother whereas Izumi looks much like her father. Izumi may have golden eyes and an inner fire, but she is much like her mother. A total sassy spitfire who is ready to fight always. Only a year or so after Izumi comes a non bending boy they name Ryukyu who is very clumsy and awkward and would rather read than fight. He is sensitive but surprisingly quietly hilarious- his sarcasm is unmatched. He thinks Izumi is bossy and mean, so he gets along a lot better with his younger sister even though she’s about four years younger than him. Kya is the sweetest angel and she loves animals. She gets the gift of healing passed down from her mother. She doesn’t want to fight much, she’d rather heal a sprain on an ostrich horse.
