Blaster talks with his hands. he's very animated when he's excited, trying to get the information out in a concise and cohesive manner, but other bits and pieces slip into his story just out of sheer enthusiasm on the subject. one of the first instances where he finds himself pausing mid-sentence is when you're the recipient of the spiel, undoubtedly attentive and practically hanging off the edge of your seat. if Blaster could describe it in one word, it's baffling at first, but then it immediately dips into a round of matching eagerness. he only gives momentary pause to regain himself, moving onward with his story without another hitch.
then, the bewilderment returns in full force, lingering over the many conversations he's come to have with you. you're nodding along, offering input when asked without hesitation, truly enthralled by his ability to speak so energetically and vivaciously. you can recall one time early on into your friendship, he just stops short whilst talking, as if he lost his train of thought with a simple tap of the breaks. "Sorry," he'd stumbled, shoulders stiffening with something you cannot place. "I seem to always forget what I was saying,"
because I’m so distracted by you, Blaster almost adds, but halts his rambling if only to steer the discussion back on track. eventually, he’ll gather the courage to admit that aloud, but it’s not something that is presently foreseeable for him in the cards. at least now, perhaps in some near future he can scrounge the boldness to spill his feelings, even if it radiates proudly to everyone else but you. it is evident that everyone knows, so being the subject of teasing as his sentences trail off into nothingness isn’t the easiest bullet to dodge. his recovery, in your eyes, is always flawless, and his sincere laughter is enough to have you melting on the spot.
the topic never came up in conversation naturally enough for Blaster's liking, and going on the second week of knowing you, it was becoming a rather evident subconscious lie he wished to dispel. he wasn't hiding it because he was necessarily afraid of the reaction, but if it was in any way correlated to how you responded to meeting him for the first time, his company would likely ruffle some feathers, unprompted.
he had ran through several scenarios on what was the best course, deciding that perhaps it was better for all parties to rip the bandage off all in one go. you were compassionate, kind- not one to be uprooted by his best-put: rowdy company, but he wasn’t willing to take any chances on whether that would truly be the outcome. you deserved the whole truth, and Blaster trusted his team more than he believed in himself oftentimes. this was the right thing to do, and he had to set this all in motion before he lost his teams confidence, as well as yours.
perhaps he was more worried about the glaringly obvious reflection that he had been withholding information from quite literally everyone, but that would not be the case.
"Oh!" swallowing your surprise, you let an earnest smile surface at the sight before you. "Hello,"
it wasn't supposed to be an ambush per-say, more of a explanation followed by an introduction, but your early arrival wasn't accounted for into his painstakingly planned schedule. it also didn't help that a full-blown brawl had broken out between Eject and Slamdance either, all whilst you had quietly slipped inside his stranded and destroyed ship, unnoticed for a moment too long for his liking.
Blaster had asked the night prior for you to swing by, it was friendly but there was something clearly troubling him within the delivery. upon his insistence he was fine over the phone, you yielded, deciding that maybe he had something to tell you, but wished to do so in person. you hadn't known Blaster long enough to insist, and didn't feel so confident that you could read him as easily as perhaps a friend you've known for a while. the only striking difference in conversation was his dance around the subject, as well as a more hushed dip in his tone, as if he was trying his best to keep quiet.
now, Rewind heeds your attention first, somewhat cautious as his helm swivels between you and Blaster at his left. when he hops down from his spot leaning against the desk, it disturbs a snoozing Steeljaw beneath the table, the lion pulling its head up from where it was previously nestled between its paws.
"Hello," Rewind hums, to which Blaster halts his mediating with a horrified jolt.
turning around slowly, he finds that Rewind has already almost closed the distance between the two of you, meanwhile Eject and Slamdance suddenly appear to have gone quiet with an unprecedented snap of their jaws. not quite remembering what they were previously squabbling about, this new development seemingly has caught their attention a little more fiercely.
Blaster raises a servo to pinch the bridge of his nose, sensing this was all going to tumble downhill faster than he could get ahead of it. his so-called plan crumbled at his feet, almost loudly taunting him as the situation slipped from his servos and then was unintentionally, but punctually dropped into your lap.
"Hi, y/n." he recovers, a defeated warble to his normally relaxed and even voice. "If you would believe it, I did have this planned a little better, but..."
introductions begin with a few stumbles, though even a stubborn Ramhorn emerges from wherever he was hiding to see what had the rest of the cassettes so noisily chattery.
Eject takes a liking to you immediately, but that is to little surprise of anyone within the room, his overexcited nature extended into new relationships effortlessly.
regarding the rest, there's an air of hesitancy and dare he say shyness, but it's a start he was willing to take. they didn't have to take Blaster's word for it that you were to be trusted, they could uncover their own opinion in time. Blaster had explained you had been helping them out, to which Ramhorn put two and two together regarding their captains nightly disappearance.
Steeljaw circles you twice, approach stern but sleepy, his two usual suspects. all the while, Blaster observes your body language, the words you extend, and the smile that never leaves your face. how you are so positively genuine amongst this chaos is to be noted as an impressive feat, undisputedly excited to meet each of them but still holding back as if to allow them their requested space.
Slamdance shakes your hand, Rewind asks you how your day was.
"I owe you all an apology," Blaster rumbles when the conversations lull. "This was long overdue, just tryin' to find the right time was...well, it wasn't easy."
on his stroll back over to his hiding spot, Steeljaw brushes against Blasters side, grabbing his attention immediately. "You're fine." he thrums, casting a soft expression over his shoulder, entirely in your direction and already displaying his protective nature. "Good job."
[a/n: round two of the unfinished fics from the drafts! this is one is also unedited, & is pretty short. almost certain this was referencing this fic.]
"Okay, actual question," you begin, clumsily hopping onto the kitchen counter, one hand bracing yourself while the other tries not to spill the beer bottle.
with mild amusement, Blaster regards your statement with a raised brow, holding his own cube of energon lazily. "What, were all the ones before not questions?"
"They were." you pause, now settled as thumbs sliding along the icy curves of the glass, searching for courage amongst the amber liquor. "I guess I phrased that weird. More of an important question, then."
Blaster studies your face, the way you scrunch your nose when you're trying to gather your thoughts, how tired you appear outwardly, yet there's always a gentle smile amongst your features. you always give off an aura of happiness, even if the exhaustion threatens to consume you after a difficult weeks worth of both figurative and literal paperwork.
he briefly wonders, yet contemplates all the time if you realize how intoxicating your traits are. to be so beautiful on the outside and on the inside- to have grabbed ahold of him so fiercely, yet so gently, as if you somehow already knew of the damaged goods beneath such war-hardened plating. Earth hasn't been so kind to him as you've been to say the least, and that's partially due to the unfamiliarity with the terrain.
"Go ahead, dollface." Blaster hums softly, placing his cube of energon on your island counter, leaning forward on his elbows across the surface to offer his fullest attention, even if you already had it the moment he entered your home.
a smirk threatens to overspill onto his lips at your quiet jolt, eyes jumping across the tiny kitchen to meet his, entirely startled by his nickname. Blaster observes you carefully still, ensuring the sentiment didn't coincide with offense, but if anything, a rosy hue spreads like wildfire across your cheeks and over the tips of your ears.
"You're quick with that." you laugh, taking a hesitant sip from your beer, feet kicking back and forth as they dangle from the counter.
Blaster catches the label- reading something along the lines of Peroni, of which he has no idea what that means. tempted to inquire of what it tastes like, he shelves it if only to tactfully coax your previously query from such delicate hands.
he gradually pushes himself to a standing position, still feeling clunky and awkward in the room, even mass-displaced. the low-hanging light fixture blocks his view of you, so he rounds the island, wedging himself between the furniture and the counter, taking up what little space remains in the already small kitchen. Blaster hopes it isn't uncomfortable, but here, he's relatively the same height as you, only tipping his helm down the slightest smidge to meet your heavy gaze.
"What was the question," he implores, servos finding the countertop behind him to lean some weight into, so as to not overwhelm your personal space. "You've got me all curious."
Peroni must have a citrus flavor, because he can detect the same scent as the time you started peeling an orange around him, offering him half without a second thought. though not quite all the orange citrus, there's other fruits that seep from the bottle and linger on your lips, smiling his way with a familiar twinkle in your eyes.
“Well, now you’re going to think it’s childish,” you murmur, setting the green bottle to your left but keeping your stare fixated on him. "I've hyped it up too much, and I'm almost positive you'll laugh."
Blaster tuts, but it's in entire disagreement. "I would never laugh at you, y/n. And I do mean that."
his sincerity bleeds through his words uncontrollably, hoping it doesn't put a damper on the unhurried and carefree tempo of the evening. when you'd asked him over for a drink, it's all he thought about since you'd extended the invitation. you were so excited when he'd said yes, as if there was a chance in hell he'd ever say no.
Blaster observes the way your shoulders relax some, sinking a little deeper onto your perch. "Okay. That energon stuff," you gesture with your chin just behind him, still considering him with the most alluring and lovely smile. "Does it get you tipsy?"
"Tipsy?" he repeats, overly aware with how he positions himself, cause one inch forward and his knee is going to slip between your legs. "Well, there's engex, and then there's consumin' it in large quantities-"
you're listening with an intensity he wasn't expecting, and it momentarily throws him off course. "Not with how much I have right now, no."
"But it can?" you counter, genuinely curious.
"Sure. Just not for me. Not right now."
Blaster watches your lips curl into a pout, eyes flicking from your beer bottle back up to his cerulean optics. "So technically, I'm the only one drinking?"
he can't help but smile at how adorable you look like that. "If you wanna get all technical, then yeah. Doesn't mean I'm not havin' a great time,"
a solo Blaster on Earth struggles to find the truth, often submerged by his own guilt and mindless spirals of self destruction. he can’t remember what brought him here, finding a faded and fuzzy idea of the origins of a mission- if there is one to exist. it's like someone stole the recollection from his processor, leaving him doomed to navigate foreign terrain with nothing but the company of static on the other end of his comm link. though, Blaster is unsure if there's much to uncover, if it's to be found on a planet that’s delicately shielded from their spoils of war. it doesn't take too long to arrive to the fact that he has no soul to ask for help, no direction to follow, feeling the dewy grass gather between his servos as he rightens himself to his full height. before he can even open his mouth, the ground bridge that all but tossed him onto the marshy countryside closed, sealing his fate rather harshly.
Blaster, who met you entirely on accident, trying his damndest to hush your screams as he inadvertently encountered your campsite. no one had ever been there before, as he lopes through the cover of the trees on the same lousy path. surely, your reaction is reasonable, and he'd be a little afraid if you had taken it well, but the glassiness that wells into your eyes causes his spark to sink into his stomach. it takes a nauseating amount of time to decide whether to try and explain, or let you blame this interaction on a nightmare you'd sooner forget. though some part of him barks to retreat, you were paralyzed with fear, staring up at him with wide eyes that only could be described as terrified. perhaps, since you hadn't run off, he'd attempt to offer clarification, but he wasn't so sure how much good that would do him.
slowly, the massive red and yellow mech lowers himself to the ground, vying to stop those tears that spill over your cheeks and run rivers down your face.
it had taken several hours of coaxing, but every word that he spoke was the truth. it was the first time he'd used his voice in months, only observing organics through his alt-mode that already stood out in such a comfy and quiet town. it hadn't seemed logical to you that something so big could be so kind, eventually persuading your name from chapped and still trembling lips. Blaster repeats it back to you, sounding out each syllable before uttering it perfectly in one go.
"I'm Blaster," extending you a single digit, he surveys you carefully if it means all the same to you. to comforting surprise, you slowly raise a impossibly tiny hand, as he allows you to move his finger up and down twice.
though still wary of him early on, you still divulged him, unable to unearth legitimate grounds to not believe his situation. he'd come to see where you call home after a couple of weeks, after you had offered him something called a car wash upon taking notice of the mud and grime that coats his once colorful plating, now starting to blend into the environment that surrounds him.
your laughter now rings in his audials, content and full of genuine ease. Blaster, who now finds happiness within the four walls of your kitchen, dancing mass-displaced to music he can only describe as incredible. he's found sustenance, able to survive off the land that is nothing like the planet he calls home. though his servos still dwarf yours, he's able to hold you without so much indecision, able to tug you close as he desires. for someone who was so terror-stricken upon laying eyes on him him for the first time, now those iris' hold so much adoration and joy as he spins you around the room. it’s momentary peace, something akin to instant gratification, but the feeling seeps into his plating and the memory plays on repeat within his processor. Blaster savors it, begs the minutes to last, but it all wraps up too quickly, ending the night with you on the counter and him standing at your front, almost at your eye level. gently, your arms slide around his neck, his wrap around your waist, and the music fades into soft background noise.
Blaster, who now recharges in your garage, can’t help the tremendous amount of gratitude that tumbles from his mouth at the thought of always being out of the rain. you smile, and it’s not the hesitant smile you’ve presented him with early on, it’s unfeigned, as if you could somehow be happy by his impromptu appearance. initially, he had tried to not overstay his welcome, but whenever he didn’t show up for his usual time you became troubled, worried that something had happened to him. you'd grown accustomed to days and nights with the autobot, anticipating his never ending list of stories and doubling over in laughter. perchance it was selfish of you to steal his time, knowing somewhere that he had a mission to unveil, but he never seemed in the biggest hurry to pick up the bits and pieces.
Blaster, a mech who steadily discovers the reason of his untimely appearance, but is beyond thankful that it played out in such a fashion. he'd gradually find his true objective for stumbling onto Earth, to protect it's inhabitants from Cybertronian War that began to touch other factions of the galaxies. though alone and missing pieces of his memory, for now, this could be a dual purpose: to protect this small town and the one organic who gave him a chance when he truly needed one.
