Shunsui and Nanao in Bleach 654

Bleach 654 brings this Shunsui and Nanao storyline to a close, at least for now. Lille drops from the sky. Shunsui and Nanao watch the feathers fall—he’s still holding her here, and his hand is on her arm. Together, they’ve destroyed the god powers of Lille, who now falls to Soul Society. Their role in this fight is finished for now.

With the battle over, Nanao’s legs give out and Shunsui catches her. True to his word, he’s still supporting her, even though his wounds are terrible. Physically, he’s in much worse shape than she is, but he’s completely committed to protecting and supporting Nanao. He praises her for giving her all. They’re both sweating heavily—this fight against Lille has taken a heavy toll.

When Nanao regains her footing, he tells her they should go. Despite his severe injuries, he is trying to fulfill his duty as the Captain Commander and return to lead the other shinigami. Even in this condition, he intends to continue to protect Soul Society. But his body fails, and he’s unsteady on his feet. Nanao starts running (see the movement marks in the background of her panel below) and calling for him before he finishes falling—however exhausted she may be, she’ll find the strength to run to his aid.

She’s so worried for him—look at her frantic face—she couldn’t face losing him:

There was no opportunity to heal his wounds during the battle. He’s trying so hard to fill the Captain Commander’s role, as Yamamoto would have. But he can’t go on right now. I think he must feel the weight of that failure—look at his resigned face:

He can’t fulfill his duties right now, and the part of him that believes he’s failed the people that have trusted him with their precious things must feel that keenly. Yamamoto and the Central 46 trusted him to protect Soul Society, and he can’t. But he did protect Nanao, and that matters, too.

Nanao will surely heal him with kidō now. She’ll stay by his side and support him until they return to the other shinigami. These two will always support each other, and always try to protect each other. It’s a beautiful pairing to me.

This chapter didn’t offer a full ending for their storyline, and we’re sure to see them again down the line. I’d hoped for more resolution—Lille isn’t even completely dead, and Shunsui and Nanao need to talk—but they’re both alive and bound to appear again as the final arc continues. It might be a while, but I’ll look forward to it!

Bleach 654 see’s the fall of Lille into Soul Society as he begins to split into a large number of flamingo-like bird, he gets pissed off and attacks everything when Kira shows up calling himself a dead man. All while he uses his Shikai to add weight to Lille’s big head. Gerard keeps on getting pushed around by everyone but doesn’t give up trying to defend Yhwach.

Bleach 654 begins as Lille’s body scatters down to Soul Society, as his feathers fall down slowly from his wings, Shunsui and Nanao still stand. She is unable to hold her legs together and thus falls down. Shunsui mentions that she really did give it her all. When Shunsui proposes to go to help the others when he also falls down.

He mentions that his own body is telling him to rest. Lille’s body parts reach through to Soul Society smashing into everything it can. Aizen also notices the commotion that’s going on. Some people go towards the largest object that fell, he asks what has happened when half of his face gets blown off.

Lille screams out that it’s hurt him so much, his halo is missing by falling from the heavens as he did. He seems to think he’s committed a grave sin. Lille thus shoots out multiple attacks all around him as he hates what had just happened. He won’t forgive Shunsui, even his death will not be enough.

As he’s lost his power, he shall rise once more after the previous 360 attacks he did releasing even more of his copies. He shall just trample on Soul Society, crush it into the dirt and rubble. He begins to sprout a large number of birds which looks very familiar to flamingos.

Someone shows up and cuts through one of Lille’s birds and explodes. Someone mentions that he was supposed to be dead, he was killed when we hear from the one and only Kira who shows up with a hole in his chest, he’s alive with his arm attached and a space where the moon can be seen through his chest.

Lille asks who he is when he mentions that he is no one but a dead man. He begins to attack Lille, the heads all land onto the floor unable to raise their own head. Kira looks at the building but all he can see is just shambles, makes him wonder how he survived. On top of which Kira mentions that there is something more going on here.

Kira battles Lille Barro next. Elsewhere we see Gerard fight against the others as he prevents them from going in while he gets beat up quite a lot. Renji mentions to not underestimate them or even defeat them. Gerard asks if he thinks that there is no way he can defeat him, if he was to defeat them, wouldn’t that be a miracle he mentions as he smiles. Bleach 654 ends here.

A pretty crazy chapter, and it seems the next stage of the battles begins now as Gerard fights against the captains and vice captains. Who will win, I believe that Gerard might have something to do with miracle, and the ability to defeat odds which are not in his favour. Can’t wait for next week’s Bleach 655 when we’ll see some more crazy fights.
