Suddenly I remembered the High School Warfare art. So here of Kokuto in school uniform-ish!
BLEACH - Kurosaki Ichigo 2/2
RAPPORT UlquiHime Analysis Pt 4/?? Credit to Engetsuga for being the original one to catch the cell animation reference to Ulquiorra from the Hell Movie.
seing bleach fandom being so excited anout the OG gotei is everything. i absolutely love how the theories are flying around who those characters are, who’s ancestors are they, their powers, who’s the captain of which division. new art, new artists, old artists with new art, artists who didn’t draw for bleach before but got interested in those new captains. the edits, the hype, the anticipation. it’s been awhile since fandom felt had felt that alive. in a way it’s similar to how it was when the anime was announced but also somehow it’s bigger than that.
but I’m gonna be honest I’m most happy about those who were reading bleach weekly when TYBW was in full swing. for knowing that years of waiting for more than just a panel in one chapter has payed off MASSIVELY! this is what we’re waiting for!
and it’s all thanks to kubo. and he’s the one I’m, undoubtedly, the happiest for. we all could see how bitter he was, how unhappy and uncomfortable with being rushed and pushed to his limits and how he has to abandon a lot of plot points and arcs he was building towards. now is his second chance and he’s utilizing it.
if it’s leading up to something bigger, like new hell chapters and seeing the OG gotei there - which they all should be there as we know now - or it was a one time thing because we were in desperate need of OG gotei, especially in TYBW context, it’s great to see all of it happening
I have no idea how popular this opinion is, or if it is said often enough, but Bleach should have leaned in more to the Horror aspect of its supernatural theme.
Back when I started watching the anime, there were a lot of earlier episodes that actually kinda spooked me a bit (I was a kid when I watched it, so the Hollow screams scared me a bit, ngl). Then, after the whole Soul Society arc, it lost that horror edge in my opinion. It only ever really got it back more in the TYBW arc, and I think that's a shame.
Imagine how much more horrifying Aizen could have been. Imagine the true terror and despair the readers could have felt in the Ulquiorra and Ichigo final fight. The horrors that lie in the dark shadows of Las Noches, the things that lurk on the streets of the outer Rukongai. I mean, there was soooo much room to make it a bit more terrifying. I would have loved a more scary Bleach.
I know that in the anime, they censored a lot of the gorier parts of the fights and the like, but gore does not always a horror make. It should have been a bit more existential, but instead, there was more of a focus on battles. On individual fights. And that's not a bad thing necessarily, and it's not that Kubo lacks the ability to write fascinating and interesting philosophical stuff in his work.
It just should have been more horrifying.
Which might be why I'm dying for more Hell Arc. It looks like it has the potential to satisfy that itch I have. The strange and unusual decay in already corrupted souls. The despair of good captains being dragged to hell for the crime of being too powerful. A small child being able to drag souls there.
I need it, Kubo. Please give me more.
Seeing Bleach: Hellverse in theaters last night was so amazing. Saw bonus content & a q&a with Johnny Yong Bosch. They also gave my husband and I free lanyards that are so awesome. 🧡
