I can't get over how devastated he looks. He knows. In this moment he knows it was all futile. All his years busting out his ass, overworked and underpaid. Prioritizing his work over everything just for the chance to make Gotham a better place, trying to clean up the streets by playing by the rules - only to be blocked and threatened and assaulted again and again and again.

After years and years he willingly walks into a setup that is so so obvious in hindsight but what else was he supposed to do? This is supposed to be his moment. Everything will have been worth it when he finally manages pin down one of the parasites that have been steadily draining the life out of this godforsaken city for decades

He broke the odds. His father was insane, but he refused to follow into his footsteps no matter how tempting. He was finally being rewarded for his stubborn relentlessness. Keep going as his marriage is falling apart. Keep going as another murderer walks away scott free. Keep going after his house got exploded. His possessions, his well-being, his body, his mind - everything he sacrificed for the sake of justice.
