blithering, adj.

First attested in the 1880s as the present participle of the verb blither, this word is now a fossil word, attested in Modern English usage only in the phrase blithering idiot, in which it has been consistently attested since its earliest documentation.

The verb blither from which it comes is first attested in 1868 and is a variant of the Scottish and Northern English dialects' word blether (first attested in the 1520s), both variants meaning "to talk nonsense". In other dialects of English, this same word was blather (also first attested in the 1520s), a form of the word which has survived into Modern English usage, even if somewhat rarely in the present time.

The verb blather (again, blether in certain Northern dialects) is likely from a Scandinavian source such as Old Norse blaðra, meaning "to mutter, to gossip", which itself is either imitative, or from Proto-Germanic *blodram, "something inflated" (from which we get Modern English bladder), which in turn is from Proto-Indo-European *bhle-, "to blow", which is itself almost certainly imitative in origin.

I just accidentally fell into a webnovel and I’m baulking at paying for it. Well, honestly, what I’m baulking at is paying the *site* for “coins”. If I were able to pay the author for the book, I’d do it without question, but something about paying for “coins” makes me unwilling.

Is this silly? I guess this is the microtransaction question - I’m unwilling to pay for microtransactions in games as well.

End of year blithering...

BLUF: Happy New Year!

So... the tally is now: Fish/Knee, Short (scaled down orig), Hybrid/Fun (Original), Long, Gun and SUP plus the oar and paddle.

All have busted versions except the Fish and I’m wondering if it really needs one, but then all the others got one... so... errrr consistency... arghhhhh 

And... for ... completeness I’m feeling like I ought to do a paipo...

The Fish, Long, Gun and SUP are all original.  Originally, I thought the store board was a “short board”, but after some research on proper dimensions, I determined it was actually a hybrid.  So instead of scaling it up , I scaled it down instead.

The reason I keep coming up with new boards is that I’m avoiding actually finishing the set.  I kinda feel like it’s incomplete with out some proper stands (and yeah, there is the one the original is on, and I’ll configure it for all the variations..) but I mean.. like wall hangers and multi-stacking racks and like surfboard “bike racks”.... The stands might drive how I position the final boards.

{maniacal laughing} and all I really needed was one long board, lying flat with fins up for some poses I wanted to do.....  And what would have become of me if the only ones I found hadn’t completely sucked (for my purposes)?  Necessity is a real mother.

And the real question is... do I do the same presets for all the boards (obvie configured for the respective shapes)  or... do I do a completely different set for each one?????  Both have their attractive qualities...  The paipo will get a distinct set of presets, simply because they are generally stained wood.

Or maybe a combo.. like all the ones with symbols (eye, alien, llama) are on each one, but the rest are different???

(more avoiding finishing I know... but if you know me, then you know that the “finishing” is kind of soul crushing in a way. It’s like death. I’ll go through a major period of mourning in proportion to the effort I put into the project... Dog help me if I ever finish the Cast of Archer project.  I do need to check in on them, it’s been a while.)

And seriously like I know f*ck-all about surfing or surfboards other than what my google-foo has produced.... I have never even seen a real one in person.  {{hysterical laughing}} 

(You should know, I’m a real light-weight, like 95% T-Totaler as they say in the somewhat southern/midwestern bits of the US, or at least the parts I’m familiar with..  That French 75 packed a wallop like the cannon it’s named after... So I’m blithering a bit lot.  I do believe I shall find somewhere to be vertical for a while and avoid the stairs completely)

I think I will go try and watch the last of Season 1 of Absentia... for like the 10th time.  OHH and cake. I forgot about cake.....

There are so many hammocks to catch you if you fall, so many laws to keep you from experience. All these cities I have been in the last few weeks make me fully understand the cozy, stifling state in which most people pass through life. I don’t want to pass through life like a smooth plane ride. All you do is get to breathe and copulate and finally die. I don’t want to go with the smooth skin and the calm brow. I hope I end up a blithering idiot cursing the sun—hallucinating, screaming, giving obscene and inane lectures on street corners and public parks. People will walk by and say, 'Look at that drooling idiot. What a basket case.' I will turn and say to them 'It is you who are the basket case. For every moment you hated your job, cursed your wife and sold yourself to a dream that you didn’t even conceive. For the times your soul screamed yes and you said no. For all of that. Hey so I guess people were really into the Pepper fic? I haven’t gotten that many comments and kudos on a work so quickly in a really long time, so I’m glad you liked it <3

I was looking through some of the reblogs on the post that inspired the fic and somebody commented that Pepper is more of a mom to Tony. I want to push back against this assertion because apparently my dislike of inaccurate characterization overrides my dislike of Tony Stark? (It’s not truly dislike, more of an impatience and irritation with fandom’s tendency to excuse his fuck-ups because he’s a good looking white man, but I digress.)

It’s a ridiculously disingenuous assertion, especially when Tony is the oldest character in the MCU. He’s been in more films than anybody else, and he has an actual character arc that includes growth (also regression, but that’s more Joss Whedon’s fault than anything), change, and maturity. 

If this person were talking about the Tony from IM1, I would absolutely agree. But I think it’s deeply unfair to both Tony and Pepper to characterize current Tony as a man-child. In a lot of ways, the Iron Man movies are kind of a bildungsroman, albeit much more unconventional because of the age of the subject and the education rendered. Basically, Tony learns to human better. I don’t think he always succeeds, but he tries. He lets Pepper and Rhodey into his life more fully, he tries to be a surrogate dad mentor and less of an Avenger. I don’t think the Tony of IM1 would find any of those things appealing.

I’ll usually watch a Rutger Hauer movie, whatever else the plot and/or quality, because, mate: Rutger Hauer.

This one I picked up for a couple of dollars at a charity op-shop - Salute the Jugger, otherwise known as Blood of Heroes, as it turns out. Who is this scrappy talented peasant wanting a spot on the team...?

OMG, Joan Chen, that actress who has done a lot of ‘beautiful gracious lady of a certain age’ roles (and looking at her filmogoraphy a lot of really interesting Chinese language stuff) - is also the Young Hero of a blood and thunder post-apocalyptic schlockfest costarring Rutger Hauer.
