Blizzard, and how NOT to design a Fetch Quest.

Hunters.  Love ‘em, hate ‘em, every damn MMO has that one class that shoots arrows/bolts/bullets and usually brings misfortune to their entire party.

BIG FUCKIN’ RANT UNDER THE CUT

In Legion, we’re given nifty little toys instead of normal weapons...in the form of “Artifacts”.  Now, these weapons grow in power as you feed them Artifact Power (Another excuse for Blizzard to implement tedious grinding.  Hell, you’d almost think Legion was a Pay-By-The-Hour Korean MMO...)...but that’s not all!  Each artifact has their own little quirk...and for Hunters, the weapon “Titanstrike” grants you a secondary active pet in the form of Hati, a wolf made of electricity.  ‘Cause why the fuck not?

“But Zwilly, what does this have to do with Fetch quests, and Blizzard’s ineptitude at something so simple?” I hear you ask.  Hear me out, friends.  Hear me out.

When a Beast Mastery Hunter reaches level 110, they can undertake a little fetch quest for Mimiron called “A New Invention”, in which they must go all over the Broken Isles to gather 4 components from specific creatures of each region (Save the Broken Shore and Suramar) in order to make a gizmo that allows you to change Hati’s appearance: Azsuna - A Reflective Scale from any of the Hatecoil Naga around Nar’thalas Academy Val’sharah - A Pristine Harpy Feather from any of the Stoneblood Harpies native to Thas’talah Stormheim - A Stormy Gland from the any of the Squallhunters (save for the whelps) nesting north of Tideskorn Harbor Highmountain - An Essence of Pure Spirit, which only drops from the Seabound Mystics of the Blind Marshlands.

Where’s the issue?  Weeeeell.  The Seabound Mystics have a spawn rate of PRACTICALLY FUCKING NIL.  Why?  BECAUSE THEY SHARE THE SAME SPAWNING NODES AS NEARLY EVERY OTHER GODDAMN MOB IN THE MARSHLANDS.  Even then, the drop rate is (supposedly) only around 10%...You can RARELY find a few Mystics spawned in most cases...but the odds are quite good that, once dead, you’re not going to see them respawn aaaaaany time soon.

Blizzard butt-fumbled the ball BADLY with this part of the fetch quest by making the item exclusive to JUST the Seabound Mystics...how could they fix this issue?  Easy.  Put the Essence in the loot table for all Seabound Spirits in the Marshlands.

It’s like...so many people find the flaws in this game, and yet hardly anyone calls Blizzard out on it.  At least, not folks with actual volume.  I mean, fuck, how many NPCs do we find on a regular basis that clip onto an object in the environment, glitch out, and force us to wait in order for them to reset?  How many skills are broken due to Blizzard’s intern-level devs not being able to understand how pathing works?  Maybe I’m just feeling ranty, I dunno.  I just feel like big AAA devs tend to be allowed more wiggle room than they should.

Only difference between Blizzard and Bethesda, is that Blizzard’s kept their breadwinner exclusive to just one platform (And before any of you chucklefucks tries to say “Diablo” or “Hearthstone”...you don’t pay by the month for those...though, I can’t claim to be all-knowing about the income from HS Booster Packs and Overwatch Loot Crates...I just know that Warcraft has pretty much been Blizzard’s Bread-and-Butter since it took off), while Bethesda tries to find a way to install it on damn near everything (without making too many improvements, or fixing any mistakes.  I mean, I made a mockery of their “Special Edition” re-re-release of Skyrim shortly after release.  No, I didn’t pay, I got it free due to owning the original and each ExPac.)
