Also, she's remarried , happy without him. So even though he's achieved everything he set out for, he's still not good enough to even reconcile with the woman he wants affection from most. It's empty.

bro please im not necessarily a kainess enthusiast but chapters 260/261 are making me come to realizations about kaiser (& ness) that I DONT WANT TO COME TO

Bllk ch. 260 spoilers rambling and Michael Kaiser character analysis beneath the cut. It's very long and it's to cope with ch. 260. I'm sorry I have so many big feelings, especially about Kaiser.

Even after all of that, I can't look at KaiNess the same. I can't. I can't for so many reasons, like the fact that Ness is Kaiser's soccer ball from his childhood (since he treats him the same). He's the first person Kaiser becomes friends with and connects with, to some degree, at Bastard München's Academy. Now, Ness isn't the first "friend" Kaiser has ever made. If anything, they are the closest thing to a real friend either of them have made in their lives.

So, unless either of them significantly change or understand one another on a deeper level, I cannot realistically see them stay together long term in a way that doesn't turn more toxic than it already is.

I find it what the Twitter/X rough translation did not include was the narration, or rather kaiser's inner thoughts, about the soccer ball he bought with his hard earned (stolen or laundered) money. I think these are very, very important to how Kaiser saw himself and the soccer ball in his story. The lines read, "No matter how angrily I punch, how violently I kick, you (the ball) won't get angry, and you won't cry. No matter the hour, you are there by my side. We are the same... pieces of shit." (literal word used: クソ物. It was translated as "worthless thing" on the Twitter/X rough trans. I saw, but the word is harsh and was used beyond violently towards Kaiser that I think translating it to something more degrading like 'piece of shit' fits the narrative better, and I can't think of something worse right now).

They both need each other. They are both codependent to a disturbing degree.

Kaiser, on the other hand, saw himself in Ness and knew exactly what to say to him when they first met. He knew all of the right words to say because maybe he's wanted to hear someone say similar words to him (or, alternatively, he has heard them. And it worked on him that time. He learned that he could use those on someone else some day).

Now, in the present, we see their relationship changing, but that change is coming from Kaiser. Ness doesn't want things to change; he placed so much value on Kaiser and what Kaiser has done for him, how Kaiser saved him.

Kaiser may have used to want someone or something to rescue him and learned very quickly that you can only rely on yourself in this world. To trust no one. Hell, I don't think he trusts the p(f)ifa president (at least I hope it's revealed he doesnt) when he's "rescuing" him from jail.

In comparison, Ness's story gave off damsel in distress, like Disney princess, vibes. He wanted proof that magic did exist and wanted to become part of the world where magic existed, away from his home, his family.

The rough Twitter/X translation didn't include a couple sentences, including one about how Kaiser thought of the rose. It isn't anything cute or endearing. As someone thst has an intermediate mevel of understanding Japanese and previously pursued an education towards becoming a Japanese translator, I'm fairly certain that the line about the rose in the cloche talked about Kaiser not understanding why that rose was kept so pristine when his father hated and despised his mother, sleeping or awake. The narration reads, "though his father hated and despised his mother, asleep or awake, the single gifted rose from his mother was handled (the word, 飾るliterally trans = decorate, adorn) with the utmost care. The young boy (Michael) did not understand why."

That aside, I still wonder why the rose was kept very similarly to Beauty and the Beast. If I remember correctly, the rose was related to the Beast's curse, right? The last petal falling meant that the Beast would be a Beast forever. Why did his father purposely keep the rose in such a treasured, pristine, condition?

For some reason, that line, among so many others, gets me. It really shows that although Kaiser may be glad he isn't physically unattractive and ugly like his father, and although the narration implies that Kaiser sees his given name as the last gift his mother ever gave him, I don't think Kaiser had any significant positive feelings towards either of his parents. I mean, he knew probably from the beginning that his mother abandoned him soon after she gave birth to him. Living with his father, of course he would never see him in a positive light. I'm not trying to say he should or that he would, mostly analyzing the situation and how this impacts him.

When we think about that level of various types of intense abuse, severe poverty, and subjecting a child to live a life of crime, growing up on the streets in a dilapidated home with not even bare living essentials (yes a roof, running water, and bedsheets are something. But i cant imagine that living situation was sanitary by any means), experiencing violence outside of the home due to circumstances, I can only imagine how fucking scrambled Kaiser's mind is, presently. I know I'm stating the obvious when I say that Kaiser is very fucked up, but sometimes I think it needs to be reiterated that Kaiser is not your average sad, damaged, and traumatized anime/manga boy. His past trauma and abuse felt extremely real.

(Side note: most of blue lock's sad back stories are all actually very realistic and relatable, as someone who has experienced similar themes in a handful of their back stories.)

I personally can't remember a series that depicted such realistic scenes. The fact that we felt so deeply sick with grief, for some of us our own flashbacks coming forward, to me means that the writing and art did an awesome job at depicting this. I mean to use the more daunting definition of awesome here. I have to admit that this emotional storytelling is something that will stick with me forever, and I think it's the same for others.
