chapter 1
10 months.
Berlin always smelled like home.
The smell of street food, the flowers from the stalls, the smell of smoke (you decided to ignore the smell of urine for a while)... Everything brought back memories of your childhood. Your friends, family... And a certain blond boy you caught stealing once.
There were times when you missed him more than you expected. After all, you used to spend a lot of time together, whether on the streets or at his house. Although, if you were realistic, you didn't know much about him, nothing about his family, school, other friends...It had always seemed strange to you, but you understood that sometimes people didn't want to share their private lives.
Even so, you'd lost all contact with him since you left Germany, so maybe Michael Kaiser was just a part of your past.
When you arrived at your new apartment, you felt a wave of loneliness wash over you. It felt empty, devoid of joy or warmth. When you got to the living room, you saw that the landlady had left you a small welcome letter. You put down your suitcases and opened the letter, hoping that its kind words would take away this feeling of loneliness.
'The washing machine is broken; pay for the repair yourself.'
Oh, yes, very kind.
You sat down on the sofa, trying to ignore all the things you had to put away and organize. You thought about going for a walk, but you didn't feel like going alone.
Then you remembered your best friend, who had told you to call her when you got to Berlin. Damn, you were so lost in thought that you forgot to call her.
You quickly took your phone out of your pocket and dialed her number. She answered the phone a few seconds later.
─Leah? Sorry for not calling you sooner, I was busy...
Her sweet little laugh could be heard through the phone, as if she had just told a joke that only she could understand (and hear).
─Don't worry! Moving is complicated, especially from one country to another!
The two talked for a while; about the flight, her university classes, the new dog she'd adopted, her new boyfriend who was sometimes a little indifferent... Until she mentioned something that interested her, or rather, a name.
Michael Kaiser.
Your friend had said that her boyfriend had gotten her two tickets to see a Bayern Munich match, and that she was thrilled to see their star player, Michael Kaiser.
Your heart beat faster when you heard his name. You couldn't believe it, the boy you once saw stealing food was now a famous player, and one of the 11 best of the new gen (according to your friend).
─Do you want to come with me? Like a homecoming celebration!
The game was 2 days after that call, on a cold Saturday evening.
To your surprise, your friend's boyfriend had managed to get tickets quite close to the stands.
Your heart was racing. You were nervous. Your hands felt sweaty and your throat was dry. If someone saw you clearly, they'd say you were about to faint.
─Nervous?
You nodded, unable to take your eyes off the field, waiting for the teams to come out. How had you not known that your childhood friend was now playing for bastard munchen! Maybe because you never paid attention to the news, especially sports news.
Then you saw him.
Tall, handsome, with some of his hair and the tips dyed blue, a tattoo that ran down his left arm and ended with a blue rose on his neck, a big, cocky smile, and those light blue eyes you loved so much when you were fourteen. He looked like he'd stepped out of a magazine featuring the guy of your dreams.
You didn't want to draw attention to yourself, but you really wanted to talk to him after the game.
And as if fate had read your mind, he looked at you.
His body and smile froze for a millisecond before he moved forward with all the confidence in the world, but if you looked closely, you could see him trying to look away.
You felt like time had stopped, like you and Kaiser were the only two people in that packed stadium. You felt butterflies in your stomach, and suddenly you forgot how to say a word.
─They're all amazing, aren't they?
Your friend's words snapped you out of your trance, startling you.
─I—uh…ah…yes!
Your friend laughed at how flustered you'd suddenly become.
You sat back in your seat, hands on your knees, wishing you could see him after it was all over.
The match had ended with a 2-1 victory for Bastar Munich, two of those goals having been scored by Kaiser.
When the match was over, Kaiser approached you from where you were sitting, with his characteristic smile.
─Liebling, it's been a while. Look for me in concourse A-3
Your body froze, your throat drier than ever. You hadn't heard him clearly because of all the noise in the stadium, but you managed to understand a little of what he said.
You wanted to scream with excitement, to rush downstairs and hug him, to ask him a million questions... but all you could do was nod while your friend screamed, both excited and confused.
It had taken you a while to get to the place I'm indicating, as there were many fans wanting to go to the exit.
─ Schatz.
You turned to look at him, and he was much taller than you'd thought when you'd seen him on the field. You didn't know what to say; maybe hugging him like old friends would be rude and annoying, but saying nothing or being cold was the worst option of all.
So your body opted for the worst in that situation: placing your hand on his cheek and stroking it.
─Clingy, huh?
But he didn't push you away; in fact, he drew you closer. He was sweating and still out of breath from the game, but he was still the most handsome person you'd ever seen.
─Kaiser...
─To you, it's Michael, or Mihya, as you used to call me.
You felt the heat rising to your cheeks.
─I've missed you.
─Me too.
An intimate and warm atmosphere had been created. The two of you were looking at each other, without saying all the words you had kept inside for years. You brushed aside a strand of hair that was right in front of her face.
─Do you want my number? Maybe we can get together and catch up
Your heart skipped a beat
─Yes.
That day, destiny fulfilled its mission of bringing those two souls together again, and all they could hope for was that their love would reappear.
