Bloodmist: arc album review @ All About Jazz By Mark Corroto May 21, 2022 Sign in to view read count arc, the fifth release by the trio Bloodmist , might be the 21st century’s answer to Lou Reed’s seminal work New York (Sire, 1989). Bloodmist, 'Phos' CD (5049 Records)

Final listen to this excellent, beautifully packaged disc before it goes into the collection. A really great group, with the captivating instrumentation of effected clarinet, drum machines, and electric bass, this trio has a very cool group language, with everyone in it sounding very, very tasty, and creating a kind of improvised music that I myself would be very eager to partake in. Bonus points for making a drum machine - something "traditionally" used as a reliable, solid timekeeping device - sound "free", in the tradition of other weirdos like Wolf Eyes and Richard Youngs; a very good disc indeed.

Wow, really liking this, it seems way more dynamic and eclectic than the last one I heard from these guys, but that was a single (good) listen about a year ago, so who knows. Some great bass tones on here, and pretty sure the drum machine aspect is new. Most difficult to discern, however, is Jeremiah Cymerman, and that is kind of a cool thing considering his main axe is clarinet; looking forward to scoping this further.
