“It looks plenty bad enough to me to justify you staying in bed,’ Steve said, sternly. “Besides, I seem to remember you making me a promise that you’d get yourself looked after.”
“Sure,” Tony said, “but-“
“This is part of it,” Steve told him.
“That’s not part of the deal I was envisioning,” Tony told him. He felt really woozy now, easy, floating, but he still frowned at Steve for that.
“Not my fault if you don’t read fine print,” Steve said.
Tony stared at him for a moment, then frowned a little more. “There was no fine print,” he said grumpily. It was so hard to focus now. “It was a verbal agreement.”

an observation: in western media fandoms there's a ton of non-western fans but relatively few au fanworks that recenter those fandoms in those fans' cultures. (With the exception being media that has a very large western fanbase; like, you'll see some anime/manga tropes crop up in western fandoms.) Whereas it seems like w fans of Chinese media in particular aren't willing to put in that same work
This is such an interesting fascinating point and honestly probably part of what gets to me so much when I see En-fandom fans centering Western-gaze on CQL/MDZS, etc.
And I think this is where... I really wish people would pause to think about their privilege as Westerners/English-speaking fandom and its positioning in terms of intercultural power dynamics, and like, colonialism/imperialism lmao. Because the whole... Western cultural imperialism thing IS huge. And even in Asia, I think, there’s a lot of ideas of “Western is better,” and how Western standards are seen as better. And the idea that Western is the default? and everything else that a headcanon might consider or a fic author might research is a favor done to fans, instead of expected? Or where I do chime in with a cultural note where I think I disagree with someone’s interpretation, and sometimes get shut down for it, and the person would reassert their headcanon but again, to me it just smacks of cultural unawareness?
I mean... I don’t know. this is something I have a hard time with because I know I don’t have a lot of emotional parity, this IS something that does touch upon very personal emotional things with me and my personal experiences.
I get people aren't always being malicious!! but boy howdy does it hurt when I chime in but get refuted in a way that reads to me like they’re prioritizing their Western lens views over my perspectives lol.

I don't go here on the regular but I'm . . . sure you're not overreacting, honestly.
<3 <3 I am trying to navigate the line between “reacting with anger” and “reacting justifiably.” It’s so hard in fandom BECAUSE we do have conventions of “let people hc how they want, ship how they want, etc.” But my thing is like....... What is the line between me going when you center things from a Western-centric view, you’re exercising your Western privilege, and me being a rude member of fandom where the etiquette is not to tell someone their headcanons are wrong? Still... trying to navigate that space :’) and unfortunately, i think there’s a LOT of times where like, it’s better for me in the long run to NOT say anything :’) and just try to let it go/move on. Even though it rankles and adds to the constellation of, like, personal identity trauma that comes with being a non-white immigrant in the US lol.
