#blue wasp

People seemed to be into my weird furry idea, so I’m gonna make more! Again I encourage everyone to try this out as not only does it make for some cool designs but it can push you out of your comfort zone and make you draw stuff you’d never draw otherwise! Literally just google “weird animals” or “obscure animals” and you’ll have a million options lol.

Practicing drawing new things- even if it looks kind of bad- is never a bad thing. Lotsa love to all the awesome folks showing interest in this project!!

I present to you Ally the olm and Darcy the mud dauber (aka the blue mud wasp).

Any suggestions of weird animals I should anthropomorphize? Pop em in the reblogs or replies (reblogs appreciated especially, helps spread my art more!). I have a list of animals to do but hey, who knows, maybe it’s not on the list! And if it is, if I see interest I might bump it up in importance lmao.

When I went out to water Ms Marigold today, a curious blue wasp landed on one of her leaves and just kind of hung out while I carefully poured water into the pot (and not onto the wasp)

I wish I could have taken a pic, but the moment was fleeting (these blue wasps never seem to stay still for long) and my hands were full of plant watering so I will just have to really drill that beautiful iridescent blue bug into my memory

so I finally got my hands on painter x and I did a thing....I guess it's just some concept stuff XD I don't know if I like the wings, but I've been staring at it too long, I might redo them later, if not it was a fun exercise! I really like how the colors blend and stuff.

Blue Mud Dauber (Chalybion californicum) - 

This species of wasp is known for building nests out of mud.  The females build these nests in cylindrical tubes.  Some species of mud daubers build long, elegant, pipe shaped nests along walls or ceilings of various structures and caves.  Others build clumps of tubes, and cover them in mud, each tube having one egg.  

Blue mud daubers will inhabit the abandoned nests of the other species.  They bring their own water and mud to adjust and repair these old nests.  Females will hunt for the nest, while males will guard and occasionally bring food.  They are the main predators of brown and black widow spiders.  Adults will drink flower nectar, but the hatchlings will eat spiders brought to them by their parents.  

The wasp will sting its prey, paralyzing it, keeping it alive to feed the larvae.  It is not aggressive and will rarely sting a human.  They are quite common throughout the united states.  The blue mud dauber particularly likes the dry west coast where its favorite prey is common.
