Caleb doesn’t only have the main story timeline with MC. He has others, as seen in his limited myth, and hinted at through his story. The important thing to remember is the Chinese culture behind his trope and how acceptable or not tropes are to them as ultimately it’s a Chinese game. They are already toning down a lot due to complaints from the west which makes us get a less complete version in En. Some people say Caleb and MC are inspired the Nuwa and Fuxi myth which to some western people is close to Adam and Eve, but it’s important to see it as its own separate thing. Caleb and MC do come “from the same source” whatever that turns out to be in LADS. Yet for each LI it isthe same concept: she is bound and fated to each in their timelines, it’s just how they’re bound and fated changes per LI.
Thank you for sharing your opinion with me. I did some research before replying to you because I'm really interested about this.
You're right, and I'm aware that Caleb (just like the rest of the LIS) has a bond with MC in every timeline (main story, myths or AUs). It's just that, in my opinion, Caleb is the closest to the truth than the others and his particular bound with MC can help us understand who she truly is and why she's "condemned" in this infinite cycle of lives and forgotten memories/loves. I looked up to Fuxi and Nuwa like you suggested. But even though most western people try to see their myth close to Adam and Eve's, I'm not really satisfied with it. Because if we look at the pairs, yes they're both credited with creating humanity but there are substantial differences. The Christian myth is based on a moral fracture: the snake tempts Eve and her disobedience together with Adam made them fall from their state of bliss in Eden. While Fuxi and Nuwa are orderers of the cosmos, not transgressors: they're not simply "the first man and the first woman" but a dual cosmic structure in harmony.
So this led me to think about what Infold means to say with Caleb and MC's bound. I don't know how far you've read the main story, and I don't want to make spoilers. But what I'm reflecting on is: what if Caleb is a source of great energy like MC is? This could explain why he was a victim of the laboratory's experimentation in the past and he still is in the present too. Probably, a third party is aware that their unity is momentarily obscured but it's there, and their reunion would make MC's true existence meaning obvious.
Sorry for yapping, maybe I'm analysing things too much. But these kinds of theories are always fascinating to me, especially when myths and cultural symbols are involved to add depth to the story or characters.
