Packing up for the show at Bobby’s Place
Bobby’s Place, 140 N Lake Ave., Pasadena, CA 91101
Bobby’s Place moved from Walnut Ave. to Lake Ave. recently. The old location had more of a old school burger place look (similar to The Hat, Lucky Boy, Tops, etc.). Bobby’s Place is similar to those places though it doesn’t have the pastrami (surprisingly). The menu includes burgers ($3.45 and up), Mexican food, breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, sides, shakes and drinks. Prices are low.
They (well technically their predecessor, Rick’s) invented something called the spuderito ($2.95) which is a French fries, cheese and hot sauce in burrito form. You can add beef, beans or both. The menu isn’t very descriptive (e.g., it doesn’t tell you what a spuderito is or taco on a bun).
* Spuderito with ground beef: It’s a good size burrito with lots of ground beef, housemade hot sauce (which isn’t hot at all), French fries, and cheese. It tastes like a Taco Bell Meximelt only better and bigger…and it’s filling plus cheap. The beef is salty but the hot sauce helps.
The décor – it’s a bit of an eyesore with the ketchup and mustard colors. There are TVs everywhere so you can watch sports and news. Order up front and they’ll bring your order to you. Fountain drinks come with free refills.
