Life Update

I haven’t been on tumblr lately and i’m friendly with a few (very few) people on here who might be wondering where I’ve been.

I started a new job where I technically (tangentially?) work for AT&T and have access to their billing system while I’m working (i do limited tech support at a call center essentially), and they have the strictest privacy policies when it comes to their customers. i’m not allowed to have my phone or any smart devices while I’m in the office where the computers are. I’m not even allowed to have paper or anything to write with, basically nothing that can record any information. They are very serious about protecting their customer’s information (side note, someone famous had their assistant call for tech support and that was weeeeird).

Anyway, this all means that unlike at my old job, I can’t just fuck around on my phone when i’m not busy, which is very limiting to my tumblr activities lol. Very very sad. 

I do like my new job. It’s not as stressful as my retail job, and the department i work in doesn’t really get angry people, just people who need to activate sim cards and get help with walking through their device setups. Very easy. I’ve been learning to play chess and playing with my desk mate and utilizing those “fridge magnet poetry” sets to make stupid poems. Yesterday’s was “Use broken windows/ they provide fools with air”

The only issue i’ve had in the last week is my back went out in a really bad way and I was basically immobilized for several days, but after some medicine, stretching, rest and a few nights crying myself to sleep I think i’m out of the woods on that one.

TIL Margaret Atwood, one of my favorite authors, the wonderful woman who wrote The Handmaid’s Tale and many other amazing novels, had an ancestor, a woman, named Mary Webster who was outspoken and sometimes “foul” mouthed (in accordance to the time period) in the 1600’s in Puritan era Massachusetts. A woman so strongly disliked by certain people in her community that she was accused of witchcraft and even sent to trial in Boston, only to be acquitted. But upon her return home the man who seemingly disliked her the most took ill and a group of his allies banded together, removed Mary Webster from her house, beat her, hanged her, buried her limp body in the snow, thinking it would cure their friend of her “witchcraft.” But he died anyway, of course, from his mysterious illness, and Mary? Buried in the snow she was still alive, dug herself out and went on to live many more years, AND Atwood wrote a poem about her called “Half-Hanged Mary.”

Amazing.

Edit: apparently no records exist showing Mary had any children so Atwood’s kinship isn’t provable

I don’t understand why some men don’t get that soft is attractive, that introspective and interested in art and literature is attractive, that bright eyed enthusiasm over a hobby they genuinely love (that ISNT video games) is endearing, that sweet and caring is panty melting. I just... yeah suuuuuure I might want someone to pull my hair and smack my ass in the bedroom but that is purely physical sensation. I don’t like assholes, jerks, sarcastic dickheads, Mr. Suaves. The whole machismo thing is so incredibly offputting to me.

I started watching The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina last night and it’s okay. My main problem with it is that there isn’t an iota of humor in it. Nothing at all. I mean, it is entirely possible to have a supernatural drama with a little bit of humor... the characters aaaaall take themselves way too seriously. And listen, its borderline cheesy. It’s not a good enough show to just be 100% serious. Aaaaaaanyway. I’m going to finish it because I’m trash and can enjoy the ish because I love dumb supernatural teen soap operas.
