HAY, LARPERS! Here's a shameless plug for a boffer shield tutorial that I made! Woo hoo!
So yeah, shield i've been working on alongside Japaneseanimes sword (which just needs a cover then it'll be ready to go home)
This is my first crack at doing a PD shield, right now my biggest issue that i'm worried about is it coming out too heavy. I'm making it for a local friend who bought me all the materials and whatnot, she'll probably mostly wear it as a backshield while she arches, but it'll look good as hell!
As stated it's based off of the Bulwark of Azzinoth from wow, with things like the spikes (last photo) tuned down so that it'd still be dag legal.
At our LARP, we use a base of wood, cover it with a thin layer of foam (or pipe isolation) just for 3D effects, a slightly thicker layer on the outside edge to prevent sharp or hard edges, cover it with liquid latex for durability and paint. That way the shields look much nicer and will last much longer than when you use duct tape. Also, pro tip? Spray latex weapons with silicon spray from time to time, it makes a world of difference
