hi tumblr! long time no blog. i’ve been slacking admittedly but feeling my motivation coming back.
submitted all my application materials for field school last night!!! i’ll either be somewhere in europe or china for a month during the summer
currently having a little marathon of archaeology themed media while i study the bone manual and other recommended readings for my program and taking small breaks to play jungle adventures in the sims :)
how’s everyone’s days and semesters going so far?? any big plans for next semester or next year? im about to finish my junior year and can’t believe it!
today on writers search history
Who wants to play guess the skull?!
The dentition on this animal is extremely unique so this one might be a little easier than some other rounds of guess the skull. For full bragging rights please give the species as well as the explanation for what those wicked looking teeth have evolved to do. This is one of my all-time favorite animal skulls!
If you want to clean bones, don’t use bleach. Use water and hydrogen peroxide. Bleach makes them weak and brittle.
This is the pile of bones I've found in the desert! There are a couple more in my art studio and decorating the house but this is the bulk of what I have right now. Some of these still need to be properly bleached, including my favorite doe skull that I found by the Rio Grande ☠
Went to a flea market today w/ @sad--tree and uhhhhh I bought this lovely fellow - a Hortobágy Racka Sheep skull!!
(I also put a deposit on an old shoulder mount of a horned ungulate - I THINK it's an impala but I'm unsure rn. The seller was like "I'd rather you get it because you would clearly appreciate it a lot, I don't care if it takes you a few months to get back out here.")
Anyways I'm in love with this new friend and I'll have to find wall space to put him up soon lol, plus the shoulder mount when it comes home.
