Currently reading
Orbital by Samantha Harvey: Lowk not what I expected, more cerebral and almost anthropological even though its about astronauts. Dense and slow but meditative, fairly enjoyable
On Photography: Amazingly woven arguments on cameras as tools, weapons, enclosures, and recorders. Giving me a lot of thoughts about possible research projects. Turns out my photo project won’t be as robust and awesome as I wanted it to be (bc I discovered I am not a photographer, but I do have a creative voice and a professional relationship to visual culture so all is well.
Queer Times Black Futures: I am so excited for this book and I probably won’t finish it this summer because of the care with which I want to read it. The first 2 Chapters have some required watching, so I want to do that before I read them. And summer program + photo project helped me realize I want to be cultivating my visual thinking. so gonna sketch a lot of concepts, interpetations, and screencaps from this dual reading/watching process. This will be a pivotal text for grad school for sure.
All the Sinners Bleed: PLEASE MORE BLACK MEN NARRATING AUDIOBOOKS GOD GAWD. It so fully immerses you in the story and in perspective of the MC even though its in 3rd Person, very warm and atmospheric southern thriller
Officially ordered a Kobo bc this summer has made me Really want to prioritize reading and I’ve exceeded my initial list while seriously having fun. so yay
