"Lay close to me. I’d be dearly glad to see you have a sleep. I’d keep watch over you; and with my arm round you, no one could come pawing you without your Sam knowing it."
Dreams and lies

Status: WIP
Summary:
The truth of Jon’s birth has both given and stolen from him the greatest thing he has ever known. “Your Grace,” he says with a nod to Sansa, intending to allow her to dismiss him.
“No,” she says, louder and firmer than she has spoken thus far. Then, softly, “Please. I am not your queen in this moment.”
— The end of the war means the end of them, and of the secret moments Jon and Sansa have stolen since reuniting.

Summary:
The outside world faded away as she ran her hands up his chest. They were only two bodies who had survived the worst the world could throw at them, hoping that in each other's arms they could be reminded of a time before everything hurt.
OR: Jon falls in love with his brother's queen.
bertrand loathes the golden pedestal he was force onto.
the golden pedestal is a bright, obnoxious sign of poison that drives his associates away. if that doesn't, the flocking "prestige" superiors who are nearby finish off the job in its place.
bertrand is not referring to his regular associates. he doesn't mean the snicket siblings and the denouements. he doesn't mean olaf and esme and r and beatrice. he can't even include monty in this, because monty's giddy disposition and arguably nepotism has him being friends to nearly everyone in their generation.
no. bertrand is referring to his associates who came from families that are view as 'lesser'. the associates who were less than ideal, failing to meet the 'high standards' of the organization. the things some superiors [and chaperones; not theodora though] said about them to him as an neophyte and apprentice...
"tread lightly around the anwhistle boys, especially the younger two; so wild and reckless! unfortunately fitting to their family name!"
"best not let the sebalds bother you; they're too nouveau."
"it's not worth making small talk with miss josephine; she brings a different sort of trouble."
"don't let the calibans fill your head with nonsense, especially of their silly little old family carnival."
"whatever you're think about in regards to approaching the widdershins boy, don't. just don't."
"just because they're your associates, young bertrand, it doesn't mean you should spend your precious personal time with them. you have plenty of company -better company- i daresay, already."
his chaperones and superiors had all the power to make sure bertrand never spend much time with them. if by chance bertrand does get too, it's overseen to make sure nothing inappropriate goes on. when bertrand thinks he finds an opening, it's nip in the bud; bertrand has 'plans' with other associates and there's no need for another to join, or he is taken earlier due to unforeseen circumstances.
now graduated to being a proper volunteer, no chaperone and organization superior can get in his way again. he is free to do what he wants, and free to socialize with the people he wants.
currently, bertrand is at a picnic party at briny beach. a picnic party with overcast skies and a gentle breeze; bertrand's favorite outing weather. kit told him of it, who were the guests (many of his irregular associates + monty), and that they needed to get a move on.
bertrand didn't think kit had a plus-one invite, but he gladly accepted the situation granted to him. he thought lady luck was on his side. the party was going to set things right. when kit announced their arrival in a voice and tone that bertrand never heard before, everyone cheered. hector jokingly (jokingly?) shouted at her, "finally! we were beginning to make bets on your arrival time!"
n caliban then beckons them. what n said, it struck bertrand to the core: "come on down, golden boy!"
the hope and joy bertrand had was replace with fear and dread. the golden pedestal the organization force him to stand on had activated. the poison is doing its job, but it didn't target his associates.
bertrand felt fear as gustav recorded with his video camera, while sally snapped photos with her polaroid; both even let bertrand do some recording and snapping with them supervising. bertrand felt the dread as miranda and olivia and josephine asked him questions of his opinions regarding astrology, amusement parks, and of hamster balls. bertrand felt the urge to make an excuse to leave after dodging monty and ike and hector's playful throwing of water balloons to everyone.
as bertrand sits on the checkered blanket, he knows now that he can leave without notice. he watches kit talking to widdershins, as they draw in the sand with sticks they found; it looks a bit like a whale shark. seeing kit with them, not quite smiling and laughing like she does with their regular associates but still all naturally and genuine...
he could do it. he could take the next trolley out. bertrand turns his head, and sees the wooden stairs, leading upward and out of briny beach.
he could do it.
but he can't.
he won't.
if he did, he would be proving them right. that everyone here -all kind and pleasant and doing their best to make him comfortable as irregular associates can be with one another- is lesser than him. that they are less than ideal volunteers. the volunteers who fail to meet the 'high standards' of the volunteer fire department.
"oy! bertrand!"
bertrand snaps out of his thoughts. he turns his attention to kit, waving him down. widdershins is still drawing in the sand, with gregor 'supervising' the sand artwork. it pains bertrand to stand up from his admittedly comfortable spot, but he does so.
bertrand loathes the golden pedestal he was force onto.
but bertrand sure as hell is going to completely step off it, and smash it into smithereens.

Unfortunately, Rhaegar lives.
Worse, he decides his odds of successfully fathering the prophecy child go up the more sons he has.
Insult to injury, he’s summoned the Starks to a grand tourney because he wants Sansa to marry one of them.
Which? Doesn’t matter to him. Her choice between his adored Aegon or his brooding Jon. If she wants to wait and see how the younger ones turn out he isn’t opposed. All that matters is a Stark and Targaryen union, which prince she chooses isn’t important, there’s an abundance.
One might even say, there’s an infestation of princes.
(A phrase from The Hedge Knight which simply begged to be used for some Jonsa silliness!)
