Blood Ties: A Book Bazaar Project

Another highlight of The Book Bazaar and it's projects!

Blood Ties by J.S. Living is an urban fantasy fused with historical fiction. Follow the stories of three characters as they deal with some -quite frankly- crazy situations. Liz is trapped in a mind prison. Dmitri finds challenge after challenge rear their ugly heads as he tries to live a happy life. Angelo’s father is a maniac who interrupts Angelo’s research constantly.

Blood Ties is an interconnected standalone to J.S. Living’s The Covenant of Blood. It follows the stories of characters that appear in The Covenant of Blood, Living’s debut novel. To learn more about the future of these characters, one must learn about their past.

For the campaign, Living is raising funds to create an audiobook of Blood Ties, featuring BIPOC voice actors. Carlos Kasse and Jynelle Brown have already been cast, with another joining very soon!

New Image for Fairy Seasons

Look at this spooky thing! I love it! I got a lot of good advice from fellow bazaarians and from my partner. The background is a photo of mine that I took years ago. It was definitely not in black and white. And definitely wasn't night. But it looks like night now. I originally had the fairy as black and white, but my partner said a pop of color and a vignette would work wonders. The fairy in the middle is from the cover of Fairy Seasons. They, along with the cover, were created by Thomas S Brown. If you're interested in learning more about Fairy Seasons, check out my backerkit campaign. Psssssssst. Hey!

Do I evera have something to tell you. I'll start off with apologizing for not being overly active on here, but here I am making up for it by bringing you some epic news.

I published a book last year (and another this year, but that's besides the point) called The Dark Side of Super. Originally released as a paperback and an e-book, and to great reviews, I was asked by a number of people if there would be an audio book. I wanted to share with them this dark, gritty, realistic novella full of takes on super powers. This interconnected collection of short stories would be an interesting audio book, I think, but there were problems. That's not something that I: Knew how to do Could afford Could undertake learning and getting the right equipment for. I told those who asked it wasn't in the cards at the time, but I wanted to One Day™ to make TDSoS as widely available and *accessible* as I could.

Which brings us to the heart of this post: I am crowdfunding The Dark Side of Super's audio book over on Backerkit. It'll be part of The Book Bazaar this year, which is a collaborative hype-building effort with over 20 projects participating! You can find my page that you can sign up for updates over here.

Fairy Seasons

A Book Bazaar Highlight

I've been posting several project highlights from the upcoming Book Bazaar (Launches tomorrow! Aaaaah!!!). I have a few more to post, yet. One of the ones I haven't posted on here, oddly enough, is my very own project. So, why not take my hand and go on a journey through the woods, to the ring of mushrooms that never fades, no matter the season. I can tell you aaaaall about it.

Fairy Seasons is an anthology of poetry and prose. The theme of fairy ties it all loosely together in a artful package of stories with happy endings and dark ones where no one wins. Fairy natures are often fickle. Just when things seem to be going well, things change at the drop of a hat. Fairy Seasons is a dream project of mine. I've always been a fan of fairy and folk tales, horror, and fantasy. I've always sought to combine them together. And now, I'm doing just that with this book. The cover was created by the wonderfully talented Thomas S Brown. Recently, The Book Bazaar published a preview bundle on Itch.io. A sampler for Fairy Seasons is a part of that bundle. If you aren't a fan of Itch.io, the Fairy Seasons sampler is also on my ko-fi page.

I read it out loud and found plenty of fixes, among fixing tone shifts and more. However, the sampler does give people a good idea of what sort of stories I'll be writing. One of my funding goals is to hire an editor - after I've done my own 'final' edits, of course.

Book Bazaar 25 Highlight: Shuttered Stanzas

Another Book Bazaar highlight! Yay! By the way, my highlights come originally from my articles on Medium. I'm chopping them into individual bits to share, bringing more awareness to these awesome projects. The Book Bazaar is a collaborative effort among indie authors and publishers to raise funds for their projects. No AI is allowed. It's really awesome!

Shuttered Stanzas Volume II: Looking out the Window is by Sharrone & Only Photography. The book is an exploration of reflections and windows via photography and poetry.

Each photograph follows the theme by focusing on reflective surfaces and capturing light through objects. A sonnet will accompany each one.

Personally, I really love the whole idea behind this project. I’ve had a similar idea before. Not about the theme, but about making a book full of photography and poems. I’m a bit of hobbyist photographer as well as a poet.

And, since this is the second one, I plan to check out the first. Man, what an awesome concept this is! I hope to see more of this in the future.

Gems and Star Flowers: A Book Bazaar Highlight

How awesome! Another Book Bazaar highlight!

Despite the vastness of space, the skeletons of the past always seem to find you. Like, they can’t even run or walk? Alls they can do is float through the cold emptiness. And yet… Blam! There they are! Following you!

Well, not me. Hopefully not you.

They seem to be following Zerrick and Fleur on their journey through the stars.

In Gems and Star Flowers by Amara Lynn and Primrose Song, Zerrick had been on the run for years. He was once a prisoner of an organization that experimented on him. Instead of just letting him live peacefully, the organization branded him as an outlaw. How rude, right?

He can never stay in one place for long as bounty hunters are never far behind him.

One day, Zerrick meets Fleur. Immediately, flowers of connection bloom between them.

Fleur also has skeletons chasing him. However, he’s done his best to lay low, selling astrae flowers to those who pass through.

Despite the risks, Fleur decides to join Zerrick on his travels. Perhaps, together, they’ll find solace. Or, perhaps the skeletons chasing them (which may or may not be some of the same skeletons) will find them first.

For Gem and Star Flowers’s campaign, Amara Lynn is seeking to raise enough funds to turn the book they and their best friend wrote together into an audiobook.

So, this book sounds soooo super cute! I’m a sucker for space opera-esque stories. Mix that with heart-felt romance? Oh my goooosh! Yes please! I love outer space stories a lot!

Okay, so I don’t read the romance genre. However, romance set in SFF settings with promises of something genuine always grabs me.

The Dark Side of Super: A Book Bazaar Highlight

Another Highlight of the 20+ projects in the Book Bazaar.

It’s so cool to have super powers, isn’t it?! I mean, it’s all cool and nothing bad could ever happen. You get to help people, be super strong, and deeply beloved by the public, right?

Well, not really.

Certainly not in The Darkside of Super by Matthew Siadak of Sword & Spiral Press.

The Darkside of Super is an anthology chronicling the struggles of eleven super powered individuals — from super powered emotions, teleportation, suggestive voices, and more.

Will these would-be heroes rise up for the good of the people, or will they fall into despair and corruption? In this dark, gritty book we’ll find out!

For Darkside’s campaign, Sword & Spiral Press is raising funds to create an audiobook with Adler Audios.

Book Bazaar 25 Highlight: GULA

The Book Bazaar is slated to launch so very soon (November 12th), and I'd like to highlight the amazing projects within. For those not in the know, The Book Bazaar is akin to an online book fair where indie authors can share their projects. They all hope to reach their funding goals in order to give their projects strong legs to stand upon. There is no AI allowed in the projects. For my first highlight, I would like to talk about GULA .

Oh. My. God. Ya’ll.

I am so unbelievably excited for this project. And let me tell you why.

First, just what is GULA about?

GULA is an epic poem about a place called Carrion City. It is a dark, desperate city full of poverty and sorrow, highlighting the ravages and pain late-stage capitalism brings about.

GULA is written by the talented Elliott Dunstan. They’ve previously released a zine called “Carrion City: Survival Poems”. I’m excited to read these poems to get a taste of what GULA has in store.

I have read snippets of GULA that Elliott has shared. And wow. Just wow. The writing is dark, amazing, and pulls you in with master craftmanship of rhyme and verse.
