Q: If you could go on a roadtrip anywhere, where would you want to go?⠀ .⠀ Clean Getaway is a middle grade by one of my favorite authors, Nic Stone - it's a roadtrip adventure between grandson and grandmother - what an unlikely pair! G'ma is Scoob's favorite person on Earth, so when she asks him to go on a roadtrip over Spring Break, he gladly agrees. But Scoob soon realizes there are things about his G'ma he never knew and he would like to know more!⠀ .⠀ I thought Scoob's nickname was a lot of fun - his actual name is William, but sometimes a nickname sticks with you! He's an intelligent kid, even if he gets in trouble at school.⠀ .⠀ G'ma is white and Scoob is black, which causes a lot of raised eyes as they travel the south, even in present time. G'ma tells Scoob about racial segregation when her and G'pop were young - how society didn't want a white woman and a black man to be married. I think this book will be a great learning tool for middle grade age children to learn about segregation, to learn more than just what is in textbooks. It's scary to think how places were racially segregated in our grandparents times - it wasn't so long ago.⠀ .⠀ This felt realistic overall for a middle school age kid like Scoob. He isn't a child, but he's not yet a young adult. 🏍The Road to Patagonia • Book Review🏍 . By: Lynda Meyers Rating: 4/5 stars . I did receive this as an arc from the author in exchange for a honest, thoughtful, and unbiased review. . This releases on November 15, 2019. . I liked this book more than I thought I would. I was certainly intrigued by the idea of an independent, badass female who rides motorcycles. Like yes, please. The story line was intriguing enough for me without there being anything major happening throughout the plot. I found the writing easy and quick to read; and characters were likable and connectable. I felt like could connect with Abby on some levels and I admired her confidence and independence. Trevor, the male protagonist, was, surprisingly, not annoying. I found him interesting with his bad boy ways. I was quite smitten with Trevor despite what he did to Abby in the past. It was interesting to see Abby and Trevor reunite in this book. Of course, Trevor, has some surprises up his sleeve, too. I recommend this book if you are looking for something quick to read and is light-hearted with a strong female lead and bad boy thrown into the mix. .
