My newest art journal is complete. ❤️ Each year for my birthday I make myself a new art journal using my old sketchbooks and unused paper. I make the cover from the cardboard sketchbook covers and wrap that with beautiful fabric. (I obviously have a preferred aesthetic and color scheme.) I challenge myself to fill the entire sketchbook during the year and so far I have had to add in more pages as I go! Making my own artjournals has been one of the most fulfilling things and greatest gifts I could give myself. I first learned bookbinding from the amazing @kialagives and I definitely recommend her classes when it comes to binding and making your own books. Art journaling has become such an important part of my life. On days where I don’t feel like painting I write in my journal. On days I don’t feel like writing I paint. I sometimes write in secret code and hide the key in the book somewhere (🤫) this is where I keep my poetry, photographs, collages and sketches. Some of the art in the journal gets turned into prints. Some pages are never seen and are secret even during my once a year flip through videos. They always start off pristine and beautiful, but by the end of March the following year they tend to be quite haggard and so full they barely close.
