its a funny feeling to look up a book series I’m on the 6th book of on tumblr and have no results,, anyway read Nine Princes in Amber and the rest of the first pentology, highly recommend. It’s an older series and has some weird treatment of women at times, there’s implication of sex sometimes, and there’s sword (mostly) fights so, violence and injury. all the books are pretty fast pace and moving on to the next book feels like just another chapter of the previous book. I don’t even,, think I could try to describe the plot without spoilers. It changes your entire perception of the plot throughout the books multiple times, you gain more information, and certain things you think you’ve figured out get broken. I don’t even know where you would get a physical version nowadays so uhm. sail the seas under the black flag my guy, it took barely any time for me to find the entirely of both the pentologys

I just read The Handmaid’s Tale

I’ve finally finished The Handmaid’s Tale and wow, it was a journey.

One of my favourite things about the novel is that it constantly kept me on my toes. The narrator is unreliable, and she makes this no secret, which I found incredibly interesting. She states multiple times that what she’s recounting is merely a “reconstruction,” and that at some moments what really happened is horrible and she is trying to replace it with slightly better versions of the memory. Considering how sad the reconstructions are, I can only imagine how horrible the reality must be.

The book does finish very open-ended, and I would love to see what happens afterwards. I know there’s a very popular tv show that goes beyond the events of the book, but I’ve heard it’s very depressing, even more so than the original work. I’ve even heard it referred to as “misery porn.” Nonetheless, I’d love to check it out, does anyone who has seen it recommend it?

As for the book, if you haven’t read it, do. I would 10/10 recommend this book to anyone that can handle the slightly mature material (it does contain very very depressing content and subjects such as sex and violence)

📚 Book Review 📚 Q: How is your November going? Mine has taken a bit of a swerve into sick territory (don't worry, we are all doing fine) but this means I get some extra time to work on my #NonfictionNovember TBR for this month. "What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat" by Aubrey Gordon gets a whole hearted ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5 from me. Gordon takes the time to educate with a mixture of personal anecdotes, academic research, and cultural references that bring fatphobia and the systemic issues in our society to light. She makes a point of highlighting what thin, "straight" sized people don't see (or don't want to see), and it's not only sobering, but heartbreaking. It isn't simply a plea for the world to reckon with the antagonistic world that surrounds fat people, but a call to action. We all have the power to work towards a world where people are not made to feel less for any reason, and we need to start doing that. Now.
