Book | Hot Milk
Author | Deborah Levy
Rating | 2.5/5
Iâm currently about three-quarters of my way through this book and still canât seem to decide how I feel about it. l feel like the writing is very stylistic and designed to reflect the inner turmoil of the protagonist, as well as her sense of distance from the world, but on the other hand I feel so distanced from the character to the point of boredom, almost annoyance, because none of her emotions seem to have a logical connection to her actions. Even a connection such as some form of acknowledgement that her actions or emotions seem to emerge out of nowhere, from another character, for instance, would suffice and lead me to believe that some of the areas I feel the writing has fallen short so far have been completely intentional.
Sadly, while I can see that these annoyances may be somewhat intentional I definitely think that it could have been done better, or it could of course just be that the style really isnât my cup of tea. It is true that I prefer feeling some sort of connection to the character and personally, Iâm not willing to give up this aspect of reading for stylistic purposes unless it is a MASTERPIECE of a novel.
Because of all this, Iâve decided to give the book a rating of 2.5/5 so far. Iâm not finished and will do my best to power through, but at this point every cell in my body is yearning for the next book on my to-read list.
Prevalent Themes:
-Disconnected/Estranged family
-LGBT+ relationships
-Medical mystery
-Depression? (I canât help but feel like itâs heavily implied)
Me, with a book that I love: âomfg this book is amazing it deserves a movie!!â

OOC;;
Hello everyone! Itâs been a little over a year now since Iâve opened this blog I guess? And you guys have been more supportive than I could ever imagine. Iâm really surprised by how many people have complimented me on my OC and the information on this blog.
However, I said in the beginning that I wanted to do some tangible good, so Iâm going to use this blog to try and do that now. As we go into the New Year, we can collectively help someone else get a new start. So, Iâve set up a Liberty in North Korea (LiNK) fundraising page, the link to which can be found in my blog description or as a secondary reblog of this post (sorry for not putting it here but tumblr wonât show posts with external links in the search!).
Last year we managed to raise $258.54, so letâs see if we can do it again! Our goal is to raise $250 by the New Year! According to LiNK, $250 is what it costs them to âprovide food, clothing, and other necessities during [a refugeeâs] journey to safety.â If just 1/6 of the people following this blog donate $1, we can easily reach that goal. You can even donate anonymously if you donât want your name shown on the page!
I know people can be strapped for cash this time of year, so donât feel bad if you canât donate! You can still reblog this post to help more people see it!

Me, the day I finish an insanely good book:
The American artist Mike Stilkey was summoned by a bookstore in Seoul to design large-scale mosaics created with books.
me: i want to curl up and read!
me: curls up, sits on my phone for two hours
How I wish this wasnât true, I have so many reading goals but a mindless app is just so addicting!
Fun Fact: Barty Crouch Jr. died in the Chapter âThe Parting of the Waysâ in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.Â
The Tenth Doctor first appeared in the Episode âThe Parting of the Waysâ of Doctor Who.Â
Both characters were played by David Tennant.Â

people making all these nitpicks about Harry Potter canon and my only question is why didnât we see people Cumberbatching Voldemort instead of calling him You Know Who like

âRefusal to say a name gives that name power, Harry. But mutilating the hell out of it to the point that people canât take it seriously anymore strips that power away.â
