📦Bookish mail📦 • • • I can’t stop staring at this beautiful print! When I saw it on Redbubble, I just knew I had to have it for my shelves! I know the Daemyra ship is controversial, but something about these two characters and their interactions makes me crazy! • • • #hotd #houseofthedragon #daemyra #daemontargaryen #rhaenyratargaryen #daemyraart #fireandblood #georgerrmartin #got #gameofthrones #targaryen #targaryens #hbomax #ritta1310 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #booksbooksbooks #booktotv https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj878EsLNih/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
According to Goodreads, I started reading this series back in 2020. It took me a bit to wrap myself around the world the author built, but once I understood it, I couldn’t get through the series fast enough. Now I get to watch the @netflix show. It’s been awhile since I’ve read them, but it seems like they are using all the books together to make one big story, but so far it seems to be working. It makes me want to read the series again. #bookstagram #booktoTV #lockwoodandco #timeforareread #bookgeek #bookworm #booknerd #lockwoodancoseries #lockwoodandconetflix https://www.instagram.com/p/CoYwpyBuKZI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
🌺Prints🌺 QOTD: do you struggle with your hair? I have such a struggle. I never learned before how to take care of my hair since I always blow dried it and had it straight but now that I’m letting my curls, well, curl, finding the right products is difficult! I’m also really over people telling me poofy hair is not good just because my hair is curly. Like get your old thinking away. 🙄 Like I get it, my hair could look better but I’m learning so I don’t care right now. Onto bookish related topics! I’m reading a book!! 😭😭 I haven’t read in about a month. Nothing was doing it for me tbh. I’ve tried to read other books including a buddy read and I just haven’t been able to. Which I feel terrible for. 😭 But! I’m doing it and I’m happy. 🌺 |Tags| #grishaverse #soc #sixofcrows #collectorsedition #soccollectorsedition #sixofcrowscollectorsedition #leighbardugo #booktotv #bookadaptations #yabooks #yaauthor #flatlay #openbook #instabooks #readingisfundamental #allthebooks #booklover #readingforpleasure https://www.instagram.com/p/CPBh_tsr2wZ/?utm_medium=tumblr
I’m done being mad about crappy book to film adaptions.
I’ve started reading this really sick book that has some awesome characters and a cool plot, like I haven’t been this invested in a universe since mphfpc. Then I started digging around the tumblr tag for this book and I found out that it’s getting a Netflix adaption, and that the show won’t be very much like the book. At first I was pissed. It was mphfpc all over again! What was wrong with the book? How can you like a story so much you want to make it a tv show but then change things about it? By changing things, aren’t you basically are admitting there’s something wrong with it? It always feels like the people doing these things never have any artistic reason to do what they do, instead they just want to use the hype around the book to get money and be done with it.
And why isn’t the author upset about it??? They’re ruining their art! They’re taking this great thing, making it terrible, and showing it to a wider audience! Shouldn’t they be mad? Why does the author of this book seem happy, why did Ransom Riggs seem totally fine with the mphfpc movie? That doesn’t feel fair to me, the fan of the book. It almost feels insulting.
Then I thought about it for a bit. Here I was, at the end of this cool ass book, and I was mad. I should have been happy that I found a book I really liked, but I wasn’t. Instead I was getting upset about what everyone else was going to think about the book’s world, characters and plot when the show inevitably came short of the book. The show will always come short of the book, because it will never BE the book.
Making the same story again in film is REALLY what book to film adaptions should be, but if you can’t recreate exactly what every reader personally imagined when they read the book, then what’s the point. Reading is magical because you can envision worlds and people in your mind’s eye but also stupid frustrating because no one is going to envision one scene the exact same way. Book to film adaptions just honestly shouldn’t exist; film makers should make their own ideas. On the other hand, without book to film adaptions we wouldn’t have beloved pieces of film like The Shining or Game of Thrones; both based off books but differing wildly from their sources at many points.
Maybe this Netflix adaptation will be more like Riverdale then the cool, cunning and interesting movie I saw reading the book, but people like Riverdale and just because I don’t doesn’t mean the show will be crap. It’s just trying something different, like The Shining or Game of Thrones, and just because I like those more then Riverdale doesn’t mean it’s not doing it’s job of entertaining.
Books and movies are too different to compare, even if their based off one another. Sometimes you get a great movie from a bad book and sometimes you get a bad movie from a great book. I always thought the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children movie was just poorly planned, insulting trash, but that’s because I was always comparing it to the book. I used to imagine all the time how much better the Miss Peregrine’s movie would be if I had the reigns, and if it followed the book in every way. In a way though, that’s even more an insult to the book then changing everything. If the film was the book exactly then it’s purpose would be to be better then the book simply by being a film. At least when the story is changed for a film then you can say the show runner was inspired by the book and wanted to make their own story.
Recreating visual art exactly is boring and an insult to the original, so what’s the difference witch literature and film? I look back, now maybe after 3 years of despising that film, yet now, stand alone it’s... fine. Not my cup tea when it comes to movies. And honestly? It feels so good to just be done being pissed at it.
sorry for the long post 😊!
ALSO THE CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS CONES OUT IN LESS THEN TWO WEEKS!!! GET HYPED!!!
What upcoming book adaptations are you most excited for? . For me it’s His Dark Materials! I’m almost halfway through Northern Lights by Philip Pullman and I love it so much! I don’t have the rest of the books in the series on my TBR for this month, but if this ends with some sort of cliffhanger I might have to force some other books off to make room 😂 . Also, has everyone seen the cast for the Shadow and Bone series? I haven’t read the books yet, but seeing the cast line up, I feel like I really have to read them before the series comes out! . . . #bookadaptation #booktotv #thebookofdust #labellesauvage #philippullman #thenorthernlights #thegoldencompass #theamberspyglass #hisdarkmaterials #bookspines #bookspine #bookcover #cozybooks #readingnook #bookstagram #bookbucketlist #bookstagrammer #bookstagramuk #leighbardugo #shadowandbone https://www.instagram.com/p/B3H4X35A17l/?igshid=111eebwus1cql
