“If I could, I’d do it all over again.” from this otp prompt

 With Kikyo’s light having resurrected Kohaku, Sango was eager to return to Kaede’s village.  Despite her brother’s liberation from Naraku’s grasp, she could not be content knowing that the cost of that freedom could very well have been Miroku’s life.  She was both furious at herself for putting him in such a position and furious with him for being so reckless. She urged Kirara to fly more swiftly. 

Upon returning to the village, Sango was overcome with relief as she saw the monk standing outside Kaede’s hut, appearing much more alive than he had the last time she had seen him.  Before Kirara even landed completely, she hopped of the two-tails’ back, and ran to embrace Miroku, wrapping her arms around him tightly.

“S-sango,” Miroku stammered, not used to such overt displays of affection from the demonslayer.  He began to return the embrace, but was interrupted by a sharp jolt of pressure to the center of his chest, causing him to stagger away from her.

 She had shoved him. 

“You idiot,” she exclaimed, hot tears welling in her eyes, “Why did you do that? Why did you try to suck in Magatsuhi, when you knew what would happen? How could you do that to me?” 

Miroku was at a loss for words. It had been quite some time since he had see his betrothed that angry.  He smiled slightly, knowing her well enough to understand that she was only angry with him because she had been frightened.

 “I’m sorry to have worried you, my dear,” he replied, His answer did little to soothe her; in fact, it appeared to have exacerbate the situation.  Sango clenched her fists, and lowered her head so that the shadows concealed her tears. “Worry,” she scoffed, “I don’t think you understand how I would have felt if you had died for mine and Kohaku’s sake!  I wouldn’t be able to live with myself!” The monk grinned again as he narrowed the gap between them.  “I think I may actually understand all too well -- Had I let the opportunity to save Kohaku go by, and to miss a chance to return your brother to you, what kind of man would I be?  If i could, I’d do it all over again without hesitation.”   Sango’s fists unclenched, her posture relaxed, and she allowed Miroku to wrap his arms around her.  She pressed her face into his robes and let herself release all of the pent up emotion she had been holding in ever since the incident with Magatsuhi. He kissed her forehead and rested his chin on her head as he drew her in more tightly. “I’m sorry I shoved you, Miroku,” Sango mumbled into his robes.  He just responded with a small chuckle, patting her gently on the back.

re: miroku's emotional intelligence (as brought up in your last episode), I personally think one of the keys to his character is that he's wise enough to see solutions to everyone's problems but his own. I've definitely met real life people who are like that; if they have emotional distance from a problem, they give great advice. If they don't, all bets are off. I've always seen him as one of those types!

Ooooh, excellent point! That never occurred to me, but I can totally see this. It’s a bit easier to see the shape of other people’s problems, eh Miroku? ;)
