Traveling at Regular Speed 💫
Time has encircled us once again near a pivotal day in history. One where a simple teen in a life vest became a legend to possibility. A capacitor, a DeLorean, and a destination cocktailed into an obsession for me and others. We travel with Marty and Doc for 28 years of backing up to the future. Midway sophomore year out television production teacher gave us a monumental assignment. Create a spoof off one of your favorite films with a group of three. It would culminate as a finals grade for the class that year. Originally, we were planning for an Indiana Jones parody. When back to the future surfaced as an idea, all bets were off. The plot revolved around the project weighed in on Marty having a son who would be shot down in school unless prevented by Doc Brown's influence. Filming took place over two weeks across our school's campus. The greatest word we got locally were complaints of someone in a mask disrupting classes, a la our Emmet Brown get up. Our DeLorean improvised was a golden impala with dents. The ending as viewable on the LakeWPro YouTube account left an ominous, dark suggestion to viewers and our teacher alike. How do you top turning BTTF into a somewhat Eric Stoltz like feature? By flipping the sequel spoof into a half-assed runabout comedy of course. Doc and our invented character, Chev (as played by yours truly) facilitate a wild goose chase in hopes of Marty Jr.'s demise being a falsehood. Our close friends were in no way afraid to admit our deviance in quality from the first work. An entire scene was devoted to agony on the floor with techo-hillbilly backgrounding it. A third has always been in talks within our group, a re-imagining altogether has been brought up recently. Distance or plot or time itself has always been a factor when trying to amalgamate the next one. The best parts in having made the first two were how much fun we had doing them, especially noticeable in the follow-up. The original trilogy allowed us room to play around with our humor of hooligans and experimental editing. We'd quote obscure lines like they were they popular ones endlessly. They're the moments I'm glad to have had and hope one day to continue with surrounded by the same time travelers.
