This handy little item is known as a bootjack, c. 1930. It’s mostly vanished from modern use, even though people still wear boots. The item helps to remove a boot by inserting the back of the foot into the groove, and then stepping down on the slanted platform while you pull the boot off the foot.

I've been telling my cousin's kid that I want her boots when she grows out of them since she got them in my size and she had to grow into them in 2021. When she was so excited to hand me a present on Christmas, I was pretty sure I knew what it was.
