This most recent Bombcast might be the 1st time in a while I've heard someone defend Vince McMahon's carny sensibilities/claim he has class/a limit when it comes to offensive angles. They had Rusev/Lana talk about that plane that was shot down over Russia, they had Paige cut a promo on Charlotte about her brother who died of a drug overdose, etc. When your boss is Vince, can you really say no to him?
I don’t think he has a limit in that specific regard, but I do think that if the performer isn’t fully on-board with the idea, it’s going to suck on TV. So if he/the creative team/whatever are approached and told that there’s major discomfort there, my understanding is that they’re going to alter their course to find a way to make it work for everyone. Or they’ll try out it, realize it feels bad, and get out of it. Contrary to popular belief, they probably aren’t out there deliberately trying to make bad TV.
I think the thing that people forget is that a lot of the performers are _also_ big ol’ carnies, living in that weird wrestling bubble where they can convince themselves of damn near anything. Especially some of the people who came up in wrestling families or were “raised by the business,” so to speak.
