Kosovo was very cute, for a 3 year old independent kind of recognized state. And of course I consider it a country, since that adds to my tally of countries I’ve visited! While in Kosovo we visited with The Nansen Dialogue, which is an NGO who works on helping families relocate to Kosovo.
After that we were headed back across the border into Serbia. Where we ran into some issues. So because of all the drama between Kosovo and Serbia, and how Serbia won’t recognize Kosovo as an independent state, we got caught up in the middle of it. Turns out we tried crossing into Serbia at an “unofficial” border crossing point (whatever that means) and they couldn’t annul the stamps we received from Kosovo, therefore we couldn’t enter back into Serbia. LAME. So we had two options: Call the US Embassy and force the border control officers to let us through which may take a couple of days, or drive through Montenegro to Serbia to go through an official border crossing point which would take about 5 hours. Guess which we chose? I have a brand new Montenegrin passport stamp! And we were able to spend the night there in a fabulous hotel, and we continued our trip into Serbia the following day drama free, after of course, they annulled our stamps from Kosovo.
