Me volunteering at the library vs. the urge to check out every other book I come across

conditions for borrowing my books:
1. do not write in, dog-ear, or otherwise visibly mark them
2. give them back eventually
3. please for the love of god tell me what your reactions are! text me while you’re reading the book, that’s honestly the best feeling in the world!!
step 1: borrow books from the library
step 2: read books i already own
step 3: read library books the day they’re due
step 4: don’t end up finishing said library books
step 5: return and reborrow said library books
step 6: rinse and repeat

Yes. You read that right. I’d be more comfortable letting someone film me getting a giant needle stabbed directly into my hamstrings than letting that same person borrow a book— especially if they don’t really read that often, and treat books like they’re expendable. I’d like to believe it’s not because I’m a total book snob with sharing issues, but the truth is probably way worse: I actually just don’t like lending out books, especially to people who aren’t going to take care of them (despite repeated assurances that they definitely will, they definitely do not).

When I remember I get to go to the library after work.
