Boss Fight

I’d imagine Dualscar could star in a game more like Monster Hunter in that it centers on.. er, hunting big-ass beasts. Different crew members can lead a hunt based on their weapon-type/target but Dualscar is the strongest, the main character and a fan-favorite. In between battles, there are various crafting mechanics to generate and manage resources for even greater hunts.

The Summoner can be seen periodically in ports when picking up supplies, raising complaints that hunting these magnificent creatures is wrong. It just seems like he’s an NPC with a wildly distracting hairstyle. Talk to him enough, though, and that will trigger the remark -

“Just you wait, sea dog. I may be the voice of these animals but they have teeth and claws that can make a much clearer statement. You don’t think I can hear a great whale cry from on land? I am not deaf to them. I’m sick of seeing you drag in your prey like you’ve really championed a fair fight. Cross me again and you’ll be trapped in your last violent hurrah.”

On the voyage to your next hunt, no matter the rank or monster, a sudden cinematic is activated and your crew will gaze dumbfounded as an enormous white dragon emerges from the clouds. The Summoner is commanding the legendary Pyralspite. You must fight!

[Theme]

Dualscar will immediately take command, no matter who you had set previously. Both Dualscar and the Summoner will yell, cheer, crow and curse with wild abandon (not to mention banter) but make no mistake - this is a hard fight. This beast is fast and its strikes can be devastating. 

If you lose, you will be sent to port and, before every hunt, there will always be the possibility of a random encounter with the Summoner until he and Pyralspite are killed.

When Pyralspite is struck down, the Summoner can be heard yelling before he hits the seas -

“Bastard! You’d hunt down and kill any man the same as you would a beast!”

You are guaranteed seven rare carves and ten jewels, as you will not able to find or hunt this monster again. The Summoner cannot be found.

Boss Fight

You meet the Summoner very early in a town bar. He’s aimless, good-natured and seems genuinely interested in your quest. A welcome change from the other curt NPCs in the area. His specialty is healing and negotiation. Continue talking to him and he’ll remark that you resemble an old close friend of his.

Ask him to join your party and the boss music will begin.   

[Theme - (Foresight is for Losers)]

“Huh? That’s nice but… I can’t help but think this is because you’re feeling a little sorry for me. I get it. I’m a funny guy but it looks like I’m gonna hold you back since I can’t rip a bulldozer in half. So, look, c’mon! Spar with me! I just want to make sure you really want me on board. I don’t even want any doubts in my mind, alright? I’ll prove I’m a powerful ally!”

The fight should be fairly easy, if a little frustrating because he sometimes heals himself. He admits defeat. You then have the option to either let him into your party anyway or, if you’re building an offensive team and would find him useless, you can choose to keep attacking.

[Theme - The Schemer]

“Wha-? H-Hey.. Okay, I lost. I get it! I give! Please, stop! Please! You’re still reminding me of her! I-I.. I can’t even look at you anymore… At least just take that glower off your face… Stop..”

This is a lot harder. He retaliates much quicker and heals himself even more often and in much greater quantities. Simply last the battle long enough and he’ll gain a ‘panic’ status ailment and begin healing you on accident.

Speaking to him after defeating him, you will only be able to read:

“I wonder if.. Even if I got good enough to save her, she would have done the same. Figures. I held her back, too..”

Once. Examine him again and it will only read ‘…’. You receive a marginal amount of experience, depending on how long it took, as well as a hefty bag of ultra potions (37) and The Book of Beasts.
