“This is it.”
“Our final test of strength.”
“Are you with me?” Legend held out a hand, eyes serious.
Warriors took it with a firm nod. “Of course, brother. Everyone else has been defeated, and Sky is unconscious…” Together, they turned back to their foe. The beast ruffled its feathers, turned its head to peer at them with an eye they both knew was filled with bloodlust. “On second thought…”
“You swore!” Legend dragged him back before he could escape. “All we need to do is return this cucco to Malon before night falls. Just… You can hold the crate.”
Warriors brightened. “Truly?”
Legend sighed. “When I’m gone, tell Ravio to get out of my house.” Warriors nodded solemnly, shaking Legend’s hand so the pact was sealed. “Let’s go.”
Together, they crept toward the cucco. The monster’s eye never left them, nor did it budge from where it sat in the corner of the stables. “Why doesn’t it blink?” Warriors muttered as they neared.
“Ganon spawn,” Legend spat. “Ready?”
“As I’ll ever be.”
“Three, two, one…”
“Now!”
Legend rushed forward, intent on scaring the cucco into Warriors’ awaiting crate. The cucco turned to him, eyes fierce as it let out a screech of rage and lunged at him.
“No!” Legend screamed, jumping back and tripping over his own two feet in his panic. He went down hard and the cucco was on him in an instant, scratching at his arms and face. “Get it!”
Warriors lunged, crate at the ready. He slammed the crate down on the cucco, trapping it within the wood. Legend scrambled away as Warriors shoved the crate to the floor, sealing the cucco’s only escape. The cucco went wild, screeching and squawking.
They stared at the box, Legend in all his scratched-up glory, and Warriors in his wide-eyed relief. “So…” Warriors said. “How do we get it back to the coop now?”
Legend cursed. “I’m getting Malon. I can’t do this again.”
“I wish we’d done that sooner.”
“Tell me about it.”
