Marathon Training: Week 2
This week’s training started with a real good 13.5 miler yesterday in SHIT conditions. It was about 48-50 degrees with a cold mist coming down. I sucked it up and got out on the road anyway. There is something to be said about embracing the suck and getting after it. I had my rain jacket on for the first mile and a half. That was pointless. It wasn’t cold enough for it, so I shucked that and stuffed it into my tiny little Fuel belt pouch. Somehow I got it to fit! The rest of the run was great; smooth and fairly easy going for the pace I was running. I finished coming up a nice loooooong hill and then a speedy, slightly pushed-pace, flat section. All in all, it was a great first official Long run!
Today was slow recovery day with new shoes! Unfortunately, I think they’re a half size too big, so I’ll be swapping them for the next half down. I think they will do nicely replacing my old marathon distance shoes, the Hoka Tracer. The legs were a little sore tonight, but it was an easy run to the store to pickup trash bags and chocolate!
As far as training goes, it’s a great start to the 12-14 week cycle!
