Unpopular opinion: saying someone has “bottom eyes” is not RPF.
Replying to that with a picture of them looking at someone they’re not in a confirmed relationship with of course is RPF, and shouldn’t be posted publicly, least of all by Grindr.
Queer people use queer language to describe the world around them, and I don’t think that is inherently problematic. We do this often, about people we know full well are not queer. We’re not pretending they are, we just see something in them that reminds us of ourselves and our community. How many times have you seen 🥺 referred to as the “bottom emoji”, for instance?
Regarding actual RPF, celebrities are aware of this phenomenon. Of course we should do our best to contain these things to fandom spaces, but it is literally impossible to do that perfectly. And I promise you that Oscar already knows that people like to pretend he’s gay, this is not how he found that out.
Obviously, there’s a lot of nuance here, and I don’t think anyone’s wrong for feeling uncomfortable about the situation. I just think we should be aware that there is at least a little internalized homophobia at play in some of these discussions.
