Thinking about the biology in breath of the wild.

More specifically, what the fuck are Gorons exactly?

Each of the other races that exist in this game make sense with how they came about. Hylians are essentially just humans with pointy ears. Gerudo seem to be Hylians that adapted to live in the desert easier. Rito and Zora are evolved from birds and sharks respectively, which is something that technically could happen.

But then gorons,,,,, Gorons are just rocks. Rocks can't evolve, and they can't exactly become sentient on their own.

So my first theory is that they could potentially not be rocks at all. Maybe they're like the Gerudo, except they adapted to living around a volcano instead of in a desert.

My second thought is that they were created intentionally. I feel like this theory is less plausible, but a lot more funny. Like, the goddesses were bored one day and decided to curse some random rocks with sentience.

(Or if you want to go a darker route, they could have been made specifically as mining race meant to serve the Hylians, but that's not as fun)
