Weekend Climbing Report: Boulder Bash
Two years ago I went to the climbing competition Boulder Bash at University of Maine in Orono, and won first place in women’s intermediate, this year was totally different.
First off, I planned to enter in women’s advanced for the first time because of how far I’ve come in the last few months. What I realized upon starting the competition is that all the progress I’ve made while climbing outdoors has rendered me absolutely hopeless in the gym. Like, seriously, I can’t climb at the wall any more I’ve literally forgotten how. I make everything harder than it needs to be, and I get confused like “what the fuck are these little plastic things, how do you follow route markers? Apparently I don’t fucking know” So, I entered in Intermediate again because thats where my score fell.
Secondly, even though I can’t seam to wrap my head around gym climbing anymore, I still scored double what I scored the last time that I got first place. Here’s the kicker: even though my score was so much higher than the time I won, I didn’t even place. I can’t even be upset about that though, because the reason I didn't place is because there were so many amazing and talented women in my division. I will never cease to be amazed my the people I meet when I go to competition, and even though I didn’t win anything this year, I love being there for every minute of it.
