I wanted tumblrs opinion on something.
Often times, when I go to look for IBS content, other people with it have it grouped with chronic GI related illnesses.
Do I get to qualify it as such? Is that allowed?
Because medical staff have told me that it isn't because it is "treatable/curable" through either lifestyle or medication, and/or isn't as bad as IBD.
But they don't understand how much it impacts everything I do in my life. Like, I went out for dinner with friends tonight and now, 6 hours later, at 2 am, I just threw up all my food because my body decided not to digest it.
I have had multiple intestinal blocks since my diagnosis. I miss class because of my body. Sometimes my cramps are so bad after I eat that I literally cry. Eating is always a risk. And I have to plan my day and events around bathroom access. (Especially because, TMI I guess, it seemed pretty common for people with IBS to come close to, if not actually, shitting their pants, which is a daily fear of mine)
The intense bloating and nausea that follows eating is fun. And so is being terrified to travel. Especially if your bowels don't favour constipation or diarrhea and everything you do is a roulette wheel.
My absolute favourite is when I'm essentially trapped in the bathroom for 5+ hours with a flare up that makes me run a fever until it passes and I alternate between being on the toilet and lying on the floor shaking until it passes.
How is that "treatable"? Because I am young, they wouldn't even offer me medication, and I have tried lifestyle changes (too much to list here)
I just, do not like misusing or appropriating terms that are meant for conditions that are inherently worse than mine.

Metabolite produced by gut microbiota from pomegranates reduces inflammatory bowel disease. Thoughts health innovators?
It is known that inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) consisting of Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis are caused by dysregulation of the immune system leading to intestinal inflammation and microbial changes. Numerous studies highlight alterations in gut microbiota and their metabolites with adverse outcomes in cancer, IBD, neurological disorders, obesity, and diabetes. Now, a study from researchers…
