Better Man - Jin | Boxer!au
Jin watched his agent and coach whispering across the room while punching the double end bag, trying to not lose his rhythm. Their serious faces were distracting his training.
He wasn’t a fool, Jin knew how bad things seemed to outsiders. He was losing points more often, not enough to risk his title, the big purple eye bruise was enough proof, but things like these happened. There wasn’t a reason for sponsors back off now. He was the king.
The boxer finished his exercise when the agent left, not able to pretend to be unaffected anymore, Hoseok’s face wasn’t happy. Even Jungkook, their apprentice, seemed tense.
Disconnecting his air pods, tired of listening to Phenomenal, Jin didn’t need words. Jungkook offered him a towel, and he took it with anger, not really bothering to apologize to the kid.
“Carter is trying hard to find someone else.” Hoseok tried to amend, while they made their way to the locker room.
“If they get out now, a month away from the fight, why would others want me? No one will bet on me.”
Jin knew how big empresses worked. He used to be part of one before he switched everything to become a real-life punch-bag, to his parents and friends despite. Never enter a ship that is abandoned, is the business motto.
“You were a champion. They will be fighting for you. I would.” Jungkook tried, showing his pride in being part of his team. “You’re probably the only fighter who can get a match full of women audience”.
A laugh escaped the younger’s mouth. “At least until I’m in. I’ll steal all your girls”.
Exhibiting a little bit of his cockiness, Jungkook pushed the door, leaving the coach and boxer alone in the corridor.
Hoseok knew Jin was right. No one would sponsor him now, so close to the match. If there were no sponsorship, Jin wouldn’t be able to fight. The man had his money, but it was too risk using it all to pay all fees for the match. That would be the end of his career.
Pushing his head out of the door, Jungkook’s words were whispered. “Hot girl.”
“Can’t you fucking stop talking about chicks?” Hoseok snapped, earning a surprised look from Jin. “Are you hitting puberty all again?”
“I meant a real girl here, dumbass. She’s here for you, Jinnie”.
Following Jungkook inside, Jin wondered who was waiting for him. It’s been a while since the last time a fan invaded his locker room and he was not in the mood to deal with it now.
For his shock, it was not a fan. The opposite, actually.
“Let’s leave, Kook.” Hoseok’s voice seemed soft like he didn’t want to interrupt whatever was about to happen.
Jin observed you for a moment, not daring to speak, but you looked everywhere, ignoring his stare and that huge bruise that made you sick.
“This place is still the same. Even your towel”.
Jin got defensive, not because of your words, he knew you were just speaking a fact, but… Your presence was making him feel threatened. Why were you here all of sudden?
“Not that long since last time you were here. What did you expect?” Wanting to cause damage, he let his words leave poisoned. “If my memory is right, you swore you would never enter this place again, but here you are”.
You moved your hand from your waist, letting it fall, making your bracelet full of silver charms make noise. The noise being too expensive for a place like this.
You were too “elite” for that place.
But here you were, again.
And damn, you really missed this guy.
“I’m here for a reason.” You tried to make yourself more time.
Jin didn’t look curious at all. “That would be…?”
“It won’t take long until everyone knows you lost your majority sponsorship. Soon, everyone will leave”.
His ego felt hurt. You knew things were off before he received the news.
Deciding to be a dick to you, Jin began to take off his clothes, getting ready for his shower, as if you were a bug.
You didn’t move, not fazed. You’ve seen him countless times. He could be such a child, sometimes.
“I have a proposition for you. I can save your career”.
“Which would that be?”
Now you were reaching the whole point of your visit.
“I have way more shares now. I can make you be our star”.
“The president would never accept me and I don’t want favors from your boyfriend. Thank you”.
“He’s not my boyfriend.” You repeated the sentence. How many times you had this discussion with Jin? “But, I’m the one in need of a favor. I can make your father change his mind, you know that”.
Jin got closer, finally curious.
“I will get you the contract, I swear”.
“What do you need? I’m getting old, why would I be the first option?”
“For our distaste, you’re a champion in this sport. You’re good.” You observed your ex-boyfriend’s face change, absorbing your first compliment about his career. He was so handsome, but so hurt physically. “Your handsome, people like you”.
“But why would you come here and offer? These things are dealt with Carter. What do you need from me?”
“I need you to get me in touch with Marshall.” You whispered, scared he would deny.
Jin lost his breath, expecting anything else but this. Why would you need to deal with types like these now?
