“do you need something--?”
billie’s felt their gaze on her all night-- felt them watching her whilst she was on stage singing about how they broke her heart. and it had taken everything in her body not to look in their direction when she got a standing ovation-- it felt like validation. of her talent. of all the ways they’d torn her apart. but it didn’t feel like closure-- no matter how desperately she wanted it to.
she’s here with someone else. they compliment her when they should, hold her hand in public-- are so good to her that it hurts a little, in the best ways. that she’s constantly surprised by it. that people could be good.
but they find her, looking like old hurts and mistakes. they find her, with sad eyes and some thing on the tip of her tongue. she takes a long pull of whiskey. “mm-- you have 30 seconds, darlin-- before i go back to my date. and you never fuckin’ see me again. so i’d make it quick and save the sad eyes for the next girl who’s stupid enough to fall in love with you--”
