Hey, bitches! I'm currently in the midst of researching the most effective way of creating a brag sheet for work, but a lot of these articles seem to have been written by people on the tech side of things. I'm trying to figure how out to translate this to my job (full-time editing job and part-time kid's librarian) when my day-to-day tasks look differently than like. engineers. Both of yall are in similarly artsy fields, so do you have any advice or examples of how to structure/create a brag sheet for a different industry?

I think it's best to be task-oriented on your brag sheet. Here are some things from mine (I'm an editor and most of my career has been in publishing and journalism):

Started new book series, [title of series] and contracted three books to get the series off the ground within first two years

Received [national award] for the publication of [book title]

Created original brand, including editorial style and marketing strategy

Acquired 30+ books per year

Founded semester-long internship program in partnership with [local university's English department]

Surpassed revenue expectations on the following projects [list of book titles with projected revenue v. actual revenue]

I know that tech brag sheets can sound very technical, but the structure your finding is still applicable. As to the content, just look at everything you've done in your job and see if you can drill it down to a task + outcome sentence.

What are three significant experiences in your life? Explain ONE in a brief paragraph...

Much has happened in my four years of high school. My top three significant experiences fall under that time period. One of them being the death of my cousin during my freshman year, the second being my first visit to San Francisco that changed my view on traveling and possible future home, whether it be temporary or long term, and my third would be my first performance in San Diego which made me realize that I really do love performing and presenting my own work. But the event that had the most effect on me was my cousin Tony's death. I had just started my first year of high school and everything was going well. Halloween came and went like every other Halloween. We received the call from our family the morning after and everything after that became a bit disorientated for me. I had just gone through a loss that same summer, but it wasn't nearly as impacting because although she was an Elementary teacher of my sisters and I and close family friend, it can't come close to a family tragedy. My faith in religion became stronger and more secure. After grabbing ahold to a closer relationship with God, I came to the conclusion that the death of my teacher that summer was a way to prepare me for the death of my cousin later that year, and the death of my cousin was to help me stay steady for the next death I would encounter the following year of a close friend. Hearing about a death that involves a shot to the head or gang violence always immediately reminds me of my cousin, whether I know the person or not. It will never be easy to hear someone died tragically the same way as my cousin did. I loathe gang violence, and it has only made me more cautious of it. When I'm talking to someone about it, I usually use the example of my cousins death and it never fails to give them a bit of uncertainty, and that is all I ask for, a reconsideration of even touching gang violence. But the most effect it's had on me is my view on life. Following his death, I became very afraid and paranoid. My biggest fear was now the future and the unknown. My cousin had passed away unexpectedly and now I was afraid for my family and loved ones. Before his death, I had this future set for my family and myself but his death threw me off. I wanted to be sure that my loved ones were going to be alive tomorrow, next month, and next year, and I came to realize I could never be fully certain. I have come to accept this fear and what my cousins death has taught me more than anything is to live to the fullest and not worry about anything I can't control. I cherish my loved ones and my moments with them much more, and I remind them I love them every chance that I get.
