To have that letter on your chest, the 'C' or the 'A' signifying Captain or Alternate, that was a big deal. Brandon Dubinsky was proud to wear it. He always wondered what guys around the league did to lose it. What sort of egregious offense did they commit to get that leadership position stripped off?

He never expected that he'd find out. He especially never expected it would be because he was fucking a teammate. His rookie, nineteen year old teammate that he was supposed to be mentoring. That teammate.

Well, maybe it wasn't his best idea.

rec comments: I don’t often read super long fics but I’ve always wanted to give this one a shot because I read pretty much every other fic from Banana and I’m so happy I finally dug in. You know how good it is when you immerse yourself in a universe and story-telling that you love, knowing there are dozens of thousands more words of it to come? Yeah, good shit. Brandon is a full character with his problems and problematic thoughts. Things happen, it’s a though road and comes the end of the story, he’s made some real good progress that truly made me proud of him. I love the turns this fic took to get where it went. Anothing thing I always appreciate and which was done so well here, is how the side characters were handled and how easily you could distinguish their relationships with Brandon and how the interactions always felt on point once you got a vibe of everyone (and sure, we see a lot of Nick and Cam but there’s quite the number of others Jackets -Andy, Boone, Seth, etc...- that we also see and they all have their own traits). I know these are quite the rarepairs and players you don’t often read about but if you ever get the chance/are looking into a long well rounded fic, please give this a shot. - @macknnons
