Tonight’s libation is a Brandy Crusta

2 oz ABK6 VSOP Cognac

1/4 oz 1804 Grand Imperial orange liqueur

1 teaspoon Lazzaroni Maraschino liquor

1 dash Angostura bitters

1/2 oz simple syrup

1/2 oz lemon juice

Shaken with ice , strained into a sugar rimmed glass and garnished with a lemon twist.

Shared with a Pulitzer Prize winning novel and a good cigar

Brandy Crusta | Elegance from 1862 |

The Brandy Crusta, while oddly named in this age, is perhaps one of the most elegant cocktails I have ever had.  Honestly, we just don’t call drinks “crusty” in a loving way much any more.  For the Brandy Crusta it refers to the sugar crusted rim on the drink.  I’m not exactly sure why this cocktail fell to the way side, as it is absolutely delicious, and not complicated.

Brandy Crusta

2 oz. Copper & Kings American Craft Brandy 1 tsp. Maraschino liqueur (Luxardo) 1/2 tsp. fresh lemon juice Bar spoon of Demerara syrup (we use 2:1) 2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters Crushed ice

Pare the full peel off of the lemon and carefully curl the peel around the inside of the glass. Moisten the rim with cut lemon and dip in superfine sugar, forming a crust on the glass and peel. Combine ingredients in mixing glass. Add ice. Stir and strain into prepared glass.

Ingrediants

30ml Orange juice

30ml brandy

30 orange curacao

sugar (to dip frost the glass)

spiral of orange peel (for garnish)

Serve this in a cocktail glass preferably

How to make the Brandy Crusta

Dip the rim of the cocktail glass into orange juice & sugar frost it.

Shake all the ingredients well in ice.

Strain into the prepared glass & drape the spiral of orange peel on the rim of the glass.
