If you really think about it (and if you put on your shipping goggles for Steph and Brenda) Cass lost a love interest four times in a row - first Tai'Darshan, then Stephanie, then Brenda and Zero. That's four people she loved dying one after another. I know Steph and Brenda aren't canon, but it kind of is no wonder Cass hasn't had a stable love interest since Batgirl (2000). When every person you've ever loved has died, that's bound to affect your willingness to fall into it again.

the canon brendacass relationship is straight out of a coffee shop fic oh my god. they meet with a funny misunderstanding leading to brenda calling her honey and a drink on the house. a worried “take care of yourself, okay?” when cass comes in black&blue again. cass becomes a regular. brenda invites her to a party with a lean over the counter and a hand on her shoulder and a “i look at you, and I think— now there’s a girl who needs a night off.” cass arrives at the party in an outfit that has brenda literally stopping in her tracks and calling her hot! they bond over hating fathers (day) and brenda says something that triggers cass into going on a self-discovery road trip. BRENDA IS CASS’ FIRST THOUGHT WHEN SHE LEARNS HER CITY BURNT TO THE GROUND! couldn’t make this shit up
