“I did a good job telling the ambulance men where you were Daddy” Amara’s excited voice spoke loudly as she looked down at her new baby brother.
“You did an awesome job sweetie” Patrick assured her to her obvious delight. “I’m so proud of you.”
“Can you have a girl next time Daddy” she asked looking up at him.
Shaking his head Patrick turned away before tears could escape his eyes. He was still coming to terms with the awful news himself. There would be no more babies. It did little good telling himself that he and Brice had decided not to have any more children after Caspian had been born. Now there was no choice. His womb had been sealed the moment the child was forced into him.
Seeing the distress on his husband’s face Brice bent down and scooped his daughter into his arms. “There will be no more little girls in our house. I forbid it.” He tickled her until her giggles filled the room.
Gasping she demanded “why not?”
“Why she asks” he turned to Patrick in mock seriousness. He was relieved to see some the distress he saw earlier was gone. Instead a small stiff smile played across his lips
