the main reason why devil may cry lives rent free in my mind is not because it has a very gay wacky woohoo demon slayer as a main character who doesn't know what sex is
it's not because the main antagonist of 3 and 5 is a certified weeb who fights his brother like they're two toddlers in a sandbox but it's to the death because they're demons and they can't really die
it's not because one of the other main characters is a punk emo boy who has a RED HOT REVVING MOTORCYLE SWORD and A GUN
it's not because in 3 there is a girl whose main weapon is a rocket launcher and she climbs the tower of hell to kill her dad because he killed her mom and left her to become a dumbass demon
it's because: these games have a style meter. a style meter, in my opinion is ESSENTIAL to incentivizing a player to not only play the game well, but also look cool while doing it. the better you do, the cooler and more badass you are in a fight, the more you're rewarded.
don't forget, in devil may cry 5, the intensity of the music depends on how well you're doing. if you're at D rank, you get like a base melody and simple drum beats, then you climb to S rank during the fight, and your brain implodes from dopamine overdose when the vocals kick in and you hear "BANG BANG BANG, PULL MY DEVIL TRIGGER"
there's a first person shooter on steam called "bright memory infinite" that also incorporates a style meter, and to top it off, it works really well (i only played the demo version i haven't played the full game yet)
my main point is: put a style meter in more games. it activates neurons that aren't normally activated when you play combat games. combo meters aren't enough, like god of war and diablo, because woohoo, big deal, you hit the enemies a bunch. but did you do it like a cool guy? HMM?
thank you for listening

A strange phenomenon for which scientists can find no explanation has occurred in the skies around the world. The Supernatural Science Research Organization (SRO) has sent agents out to various regions to investigate this phenomenon. It is soon discovered that these strange occurrences are connected to an archaic mystery – an as-of-yet unknown history of two worlds, about to come to light...
What 2021 games do you want?
By that, I mean games with confirmed 2021 release dates (which aren’t that many so far). For instance, I’m looking forward to the new Fable but I’m certain that isn’t coming out this year, so I’m not counting that in this post.
So far, the games with solid release dates that have my interest include Gal*Gun Returns, Balan Wonderworld and Little Nightmares II (though my brother will likely pick that up... or I can get it for him as a Birthday present). Bright Memory: Infinite I believe is 2021 Spring, but still not a solid release date yet.
I’m also finding myself tempted by the new Harvest Moon game, Harvest Moon: One World. It just got an Xbox One version announced and comes with a chicken cuddly toy. I love chickens! I love cuddly toys! Tempting... even if I’m already aware of the drama regarding the rights and name of the series.
So yeah, as the title says, what definitely confirmed 2021 games are you looking forward to... ignoring the possibility of delays?
Bright Memory Infinite - Xbox Series X gameplay trailer. It'll launch for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Overview
A Rich Sci-fi StoryBright Memory: Infinite is set in a sprawling, futuristic metropolis in the year 2036.The player will take on the role of Shelia, a member of the Supernatural Science Research Organization (SRO), an organization in possession of more advanced science and technology than even the military. Bright Memory: Infinite is full of breathtaking fun and exciting action, such as navigating a spaceship that can travel through time, battling ancient samurai displaced from 1000 years ago to the present, and exploring a wormhole that has appeared on Earth.High-Speed 3D CombatBy now I’m sure everyone has seen Bright Memory: Infinite‘s appearance on Inside Xbox. In addition to the deep and rich story, another main feature of the game is its adrenaline-pumping gameplay design. With the way I’ve designed the battle system, players can experience lightning-fast combat using a variety of skills to create their own personalized style of fighting. Basically, any skills can be combined and will generate different effects when utilized and it’s up to the player to figure out how to best use these skills both in and out of battle. Some skills can be used to overcome certain obstacles or solve certain puzzles, be it in combat or while exploring the futuristic world.Stunning Visual EffectsThe quality of the graphics of Bright Memory: Infinite for the Xbox Series X is the aspect I focused most on throughout the game’s development, in order to truly harness and show off the abilities of the next-gen system. This can particularly be seen in the wormholes appearing in the game. I’ve also made use of the dramatic visual effects made possible by the Xbox Series X, which can be seen in dynamic scenes in which wind, rain, leaves, and pebbles are visibly sucked toward a wormhole as the player explores their surroundings. These stunning visual effects are all possible thanks to DirectX Raytracing (DXR) on the Xbox Series X.
