The demon hunter character and present-day Modri Vladis both wear white tippets with the same insignia, outfits with similar details (robes and buckles etc), and boots decorated with the same design. They also both have sharp teeth

Perhaps it's the uniform of some kind of holy order of demon hunters/exorcists? And the hunter, after saving Modri from falling into the demon's temptation, ends up recruiting Modri to his cause

After getting bombarded with spoilers on my feeds, I finally read chapter 215! Thanks to @waxn-wane

And man... I'd say this is one hell of a chapter...

SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 215

Chapter 215: That Butler, Kiss & Forget

Right, in the last chapter, we all speculated about who this guy could be and how he's come to know Sebastian.

And in this chapter, we finally know his name.... and not much else. Absolutely nothing. And Seba (who supposedly knew him) was no help at all.

But Mr. Modri Vladis seems like an important character, if only for the fact that he's on this chapter's cover page. I guess only time will tell if he'd be a friend or a foe, or both.

One thing I can say for sure is Sebastian wasn't lying. He truly didn't know this guy.

1. We've established that he cannot lie to Ciel and Ciel has questioned him multiple times if he knew the guy and his answer was 'No.'

2. It's interesting that they used the word 'remember' and 'recall' instead of 'know'. In the past, I've mentioned that Seba might have an eidetic memory and the fact that he couldn't remember someone from his past didn't go together with this theory. But this is assuming that Mr. Vladis was human.

Why?

Well, simply because the guy looked rather young and if he was a normal, regular human, he couldn't be older than 30-ish and I don't think Seba would've forgotten him if he were to meet him in the past. This is of course, under the assumption that their last encounter was sexual in nature. The last time they met was probably when he was like 15 (Seba likes 'em young) and it just doesn't make sense that he doesn't remember him.

Now, if Mr. Vladis wasn't human... well, that would change the game altogether.

There's one thing that intrigued me...

Why would he use his own blood to remind Seba? It wasn't like Seba was a vampire... and what exactly did he mean by 'to remind your body'? How would a demon's body remember someone's blood? What could be gleamed from it? Did he expect him to remember his soul? The taste of his blood? Their tryst? Seba's biting fetish?

The demon in question, though, looked absolutely clueless (and weirded out).

Before things got out of hands (and Mr. Vladis ran out of blood), Mr. Monopoly put a stop to the chaos and told his cleaning lady to mop the floor. She must've done a bad job or might've used a strawberry flavoured cleaning solution because the guy then licked the floor! Like legit got down to his hands and knees and LICKED THE FLOOR!

(That's my reaction when I saw him licking the floor)

After everything has calmed down, Ciel started questioning Sebastian, hiding his jealousy behind a teasing remark. I find it interesting that he wasn't at all surprised to know that there's a possibility that his butler might have had sex with a man. He just took it in stride.

Antis: It means he doesn't feel that way about Seba!

Me: It means he knows that his boyfriend was a whore.

Moving on...

I don't know what happened, who Vladis was and how he came to know Seba. Some people are saying that UT might've planted false memory in his head, one where he knew Seba in his past. But I think it's still too early to tell. Perhaps in another chapter or two...

And again, Seba denied that he knew him.

Another reason why this might not be what it seems is how Seba only took this particular form when he made a contract with Ciel, which means that he might've looked differently in the past, which begs the question, how did Modri find him if he looked completely different? This seems to support the theory that UT might've planted flase memory in him or he might've misremembered, although that's rather ridiculous. Imagine, he'd made a spectacle of himself and he even had spilled his own blood only to realise that he might have yelled at the wrong person after all?

I wonder if he was going to have anything to do with how Seba is going to visit Bard in the Breadland...

The plot is not really moving forward, instead this chapter has raised even more questions. Who exactly is Mr. Vladis? What's his relationship with Seba? Why did Mr. Monopoly lick the floor? Out of everything that happened in this chapter, this is the part that weirded me out the most.

Seba is being his usual idiot self and Ciel is almost at the end of his ropes with his demon's stupid antics.

Ciel: How many men have you slept with in the past?!

Seb: Um... one... two... three... Um... it's all in the past! 😁😄

Ciel: I've had it with you!

Overall, this is a fun chapter and I look forward to see these two wrecking some more chaos at the hotel!

In the meantime, Ciel has to clean up after his butler...

Ch 212: That Butler, Going South

Basically, the chapter covers Sebastian and Ciel traveling by train to Brighton, discussing the servants’ missions as Ciel enjoys breakfast in the dining car.

(Remember that all the missions are happening simultaneously more or less, so Ciel doesn’t know how successful or not they all were.)

It’s actually quite brilliant of Yana and her team to time things like this. This chapter is a great way for fans who may have lapsed during the servant arcs to catch up again, or even for new fans lured in by the anime to get a taste of the manga.

It’s also interesting to see a how a some of the scenes mirror panels/moments from previous arcs.

For example, the shot of Sebastian and Ciel on the train together is akin to the end of the circus arc. (And admire how much her art has improved!)

Later, we get a (shocking, to me, anyway) shot of Sebastian sitting at the table with Ciel as equals, reminiscent of when they ironed out the details of the contract.

The chapter begins with the two of them on the train in their first class compartment, en route to Brighton from Reading.

Sebastian, ever the conscientious butler, notices the time and mentions breakfast, but Ciel is cautious: they’re fugitives, after all. Sebastian points out that most people wouldn’t expect a criminal to be casually taking a meal in the dining car. Seeing his point (and since Ciel is driven by his stomach lol), they go to have breakfast together.

They then discuss the servants’ missions and what they expect. For example, Ciel brings up the point that Lau can only be trusted so far, and he is the one who first brought their attention to the whole mess back in the Campania arc with Karstein Hospital. And he is a mafia boss.

But, both of them acknowledge that Bard is the smartest and most capable of the four servants (Bard, Mey, Finny, Snake), and that he managed to make it to the UK all the way from America alone. Plus, he’s trustworthy. Ciel points out that’s precisely why he paired them up. (Seeing them compliment my man 😭😭… Take that, Bard haters!)

They also discuss the mission Ran Mao and Mey are undergoing and ofc Snake and Finny. (I’m sorry but I’m tired and I don’t care as much about the other servants as Bard so I’m… not going into detail on their pages. Maybe tomorrow if I have time and spoons I’ll make an add-on to this going over those pages.)

This panel is one of my fave moments in the chapter… it translates more or less like this:

Mey: For our lord

Bard: With pride

Snake: With my life on the line

Finny: I do the assigned work and see it through to the end

Despite initially being wary of leaving their compartment, when Sebastian suggests they leave the dining car, Ciel wants to stay and stretch his legs. It’s only a few hours to Brighton by train.

Looks like next week we’ll start the arc in earnest and maybe learn how they plan to infiltrate the hotel.

“The room is silent. Ciel focuses on the glow of the candle as Sebastian slips the main dress off his shoulders and lets it drop unceremoniously onto the ground. He feels a slight chill in the room as he digs his fingers underneath the petticoat and grazes past the dip in his hips.

Ciel fights the urge to gasp. The devil was fucking with him.

The cotton petticoat meets the floor, along with the crumpled up dress. Despite the fact that Sebastian has bathed and undressed him every day for nearly four years now, Ciel feels strangely vulnerable to be standing here in nothing but ladies undergarments. It feels surreal—just the two of them, in this honeymoon suite. He curses himself for letting his head go there, wishing, wanting almost for it to be real.”
