Armenian stamp with the image of the cast bronze head (1th century BCE), larger than life-size, once belonging to a statue. It was found in the 19th century near Satala, located close to the Armenian district of Erez/Yerznka. It is usually interpreted as representing the Armenian Anahit (or Aphrodite) and is now held in the British Museum.

Anahit (Armenian: Անահիտ) was the goddess of fertility and healing, wisdom and water in Armenian mythology. In early periods she was the goddess of war. By the 5th century BCE she was the main deity in Armenia along with Aramazd.

The Armenian goddess Anahit is related to the similar Iranian goddess Anahita. Anahit's worship, most likely borrowed from the Iranians during the Median invasion or the early Achaemenid period, was of paramount significance in Armenia. Artaxias I erected statues of Anahit, and promulgated orders to worship them.

Bronze Head of the Emperor Claudius or Nero 1st century AD

This head, found in 1907, found at the River Alde at Rendham, near Saxmundham Suffolk, formed part of a life-size bronze statue of an Emperor, probably Claudius (AD 41 - 54), who led the invasion of Britain in AD 43, or Nero (AD 54 - 68). Such portrait were set up in public and official spaces, and the head may have come from a statue in the roman town (colonia) at Colchester.

3,000-year-old two-faced bronze head found in China

BEIJING: Archaeologists have claimed to have discovered a rare bronze head with two faces and dating back to over 3,000 years, in a tomb complex in China's Hubei province. 

The sculpture featuring huge eyes, protruding cheekbones and horns has been unearthed from the Yejiashan Graveyard in Suizhou city, Xinhua reported. 

The graveyard consists of a cluster of tombs believed to be related to the nobles during the early Western Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 B.C.). 

Researchers finished excavating the graveyard on Thursday. Read more.
