Mandy Freeman Instagram story - 11/20/24
Still not over this goal. Actually I'm still wondering how Gotham did it. Their whole playoff run was against all odds. I've always been a believer of "play good enough so you get to the playoffs and then it's go time". But the fact that Gotham took this mantra and ran with it - being the last seed and went on to win it twice in three years is mind boggling. Soccer purists would hate this but I'm all for it lol
Passing sequence: Berger -> Sonnett -> Schupansky -> Bruninha -> Lavelle

That’s got to be the craziest end to a championship match I’ve seen in recent memory.
Outside of ice hockey, I don’t ever recall seeing the ejection of a goalie, ever.
Gotham FC goalkeeper Mandy Haught (#24), who did an amazing job all night, handballs herself to a red card at 90+7’ for denying a goal-scoring opportunity outside the box.
Because Gotham had expended all their subs, midfielder Nealy Martin (#14) had to wear her jersey and defend goal through stoppage time until the final whistle.
The script for this story was something else entirely and I’m so very, very happy Kriegs got her medal on 11/11, the last day of her club career but that was wild. Wild.
