Nurse Examining Children at Bryant School, Seattle, 1945

The Seattle School District hired its first school nurse in 1908.  In the following years, school nurses screened students for communicable diseases, taught classes in health and nutrition and even made house calls to sick students who had to be absent for serious illnesses.
